For both brand new Beyond the Gates fans & those who have been watching since day one, the bond between Martin Richardson & his grandfather Vernon Dupree is far stronger than his with his father Ted Richardson. Also, Beyond the Gates in replay, episodes 1-5 this week on CBS, reveal the look Leslie Thomas gave Ted Richardson at the Garland Memorial Hospital, which may have been overlooked by some soap opera fans the first run through.

Ted Richardson on Beyond the Gates was initially portrayed by Maurice Johnson, often called “Turtleneck Ted” across social media, didn’t have secrets early on & he’s already missed. Just as Ted Richardson’s life was turned upside down, Keith Robinson stepped in to play Ted Richardson.
“Turtleneck Ted” by Maurice Johnson would have never cheated on his wife Nicole Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix), & he would have never kept whatever his son’s secret is about what happened that one night a secret Nicole did, & now Ted Richardson, by Keith Robinson, has to pay the price.
Leslie Remembers Ted, Martin Keeps Close to Vernon
Beyond the Gates fans may have missed the look Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) gave Ted Richardson when she visited Garland Memorial to congratulate new nurse Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob) on her new job with her gal pals. In retrospect, Beyond the Gates should have known.

Since day one, Martin clearly has a much closer relationship with his grandfather, Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis), rather than his father, Ted Richardson. It’s also clear that Martin has a secret that Vernon is protecting, but it’s not revealed until Keith Robinson begins portraying Ted Richardson that Ted has always known the secret.
