LUCY ROMALOTTI IS FINE AND SO IS CHRISTIAN NEWMAN AND Y&R WOULD LIKE US TO STOP ASKING

TL;DR: Lucy Romalotti is MIA on The Young and the Restless and her father Daniel Romalotti, the town hobo, would like us to know she is doing awesome. Her mother was presumed to have been killed by Daniel before the body Sharon Newman dumped in the river was found and Ian Ward was revealed as the actual killer. Lucy was dabbling in alcohol and doing a very strange version of stalking Faith Newman before all of this happened. We are not convinced she is fine. We think she is with Christian Newman. We think everyone is with Christian Newman.

Let Us Talk About Christian Newman First

Before we get to Lucy Romalotti we need to establish the foundational truth that governs all missing character discussions on The Young and the Restless.

Christian Newman has not been seen in years. Not a glimpse. Not a mention that leads anywhere. Not a single scene that confirms what age he currently is or what he is doing or whether he is okay. He has simply ceased to exist in any visible capacity on the canvas while everyone around him continues aging and scheming and getting into trouble without him.

Christian Newman is fine. We are told this implicitly by the show’s complete silence on the matter. He is out there somewhere doing whatever it is that Y&R characters do when the cameras are not on them. He is fine. He is just not here.

Christian Newman did not simply become a missing character. He became a location. He established the tradition. He set the standard. Whenever a Y&R fan asks where a specific character has gone, wherever someone disappeared to without explanation or acknowledgment, the answer is always the same.

They are with Christian Newman.

It started as a joke. It has become increasingly accurate. Christian Newman is the original. Everyone else is simply following the path he cleared.

Faith Newman Is Also Fine, So We Are Told

Faith Newman is at college. She is doing well. We know this because people on The Young and the Restless mention it occasionally in conversations that are about other things entirely. Faith is referenced. Faith is not seen. Faith is doing great at a college that has never appeared on screen and will likely never appear on screen.

Faith Newman is fine. She is simply elsewhere. Thriving. Off camera. In a location that the show acknowledges exists without ever actually showing it to us.

Christian Newman established that template long before Faith ever went to college. Faith simply followed the path he cleared. You do not need to be present to be fine on this show. Christian Newman proved that first. Faith enrolled in the tradition. Now Lucy has joined them both.

Lucy Romalotti has now joined this rapidly expanding club. The problem is that Lucy’s situation is significantly more complicated than simply being away at college and thriving.

Let Us Talk About Lucy Romalotti’s Actual Situation

Lucy Romalotti is supposedly doing awesome. Her father Daniel Romalotti, the town hobo, is the source of this assessment. We would like to present some context for why Daniel Romalotti’s endorsement of Lucy’s emotional wellbeing may not be the most reliable data point available.

Before Lucy went MIA she was dabbling in alcohol. She was also engaging in what can only be described as a very specific and slightly unsettling fixation on Faith Newman that never fully resolved itself into a normal friendship or anything else with a clean label. The energy was complicated. Lucy was struggling. These things were happening.

Then Ian Ward killed her mother Heather Stevens. Daniel Romalotti became the presumed killer before the body was even found. Sharon Newman, believing she was the one responsible for Heather’s death, dumped the body in the river thinking she was going to get away with it. The body was found. The truth about Ian Ward eventually came out. Daniel was cleared. It was a complete and total hot mess that touched every corner of Lucy’s life simultaneously.

Lucy is now reportedly doing awesome, per her father.

We want to believe that. We genuinely do. We are also looking at the list of things that happened to this girl in a relatively short period of time and finding it difficult to locate the part where awesome becomes the natural outcome without any visible processing or support system or on screen evidence of any kind.

The Daniel Romalotti Situation Does Not Help

We need to spend a moment on Lucy Romalotti’s father because he is the primary source of the awesome assessment and his credibility deserves examination.

Daniel Romalotti used to work. He had a career and a life and a presence in Genoa City that went beyond drifting. Then everything fell apart. He was framed for murder. He has been sleeping with Tessa Porter, a married woman, which is its own entire situation. In the aftermath of all of it Daniel quietly became the town hobo. Genoa City has not been kind to him and he has not been particularly kind to his own stability either.

He is not exactly providing the kind of grounded parental presence that a teenager who has been through what Lucy has been through would theoretically need. The man used to work. That time has passed.

Lucy is supposedly awesome. Her father is the town hobo who has been sleeping with a married lesbian and was recently cleared of murdering her mother. The woman who dumped her mother’s body in a river lives in the same town. The man who actually killed her mother is Ian Ward.

Genoa City has a remarkable capacity for producing fine outcomes from catastrophic circumstances without showing its work. Lucy Romalotti is the latest entry in that tradition.

She is fine. She is awesome. Per her father the town hobo.

She is probably with Christian Newman.
