MICHAEL BALDWIN BREAKS WITH VICTOR NEWMAN AS PHYLLIS GETS PERP-WALKED

TL;DR: On the May 5 episode of Young and the Restless, Christine arrests Phyllis Summers at her own office, Lauren forces Michael Baldwin to defend her, and Victor kicks his longtime fixer off the ranch in a shocking betrayal.

The Perp Walk Heard Round Genoa City

The May 5 Young and the Restless episode delivers the kind of courtroom setup fans have been waiting decades to see. Christine Blair Romalotti (Lauralee Bell) walks into Phyllis Summers’ (Michelle Stafford) corner office at Summers Conglomerate with a uniformed officer at her heels. The cop reads the empire-stealing redhead her rights right at her own desk.

Phyllis fumes. She tells Christine the District Attorney is going to be humiliated when the fabricated AI evidence is proven false. But Christine doesn’t blink. The cop slaps on the cuffs, and Phyllis gets perp-walked out of the building she stole fair and square three months ago.

This is the moment Christine has been waiting for since 1994. And reading between the lines, she is not about to let this case slip through her fingers.

Lauren Fenmore Baldwin Forces Her Husband’s Hand

Yes, Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey E. Bregman) intercepts the perp walk in the corridor and confronts Christine face to face. Lauren tells Cricket she cannot do this, that Victor is using her to do his dirty work, and vows to get her husband on the phone.

Phyllis tells Lauren not to bother. Her attorney already made his choice. But Lauren is not the type to take no for an answer when her best friend is being hauled off in cuffs over a frame job.

Lauren tracks Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) down at Crimson Lights and lays it out for him. Her best friend is going to prison. Her husband knows this case is rigged. And his wife is begging him to do what’s right – even if it means torching everything he and the moustache built together.

Will Michael Baldwin Defy Victor Newman?

Yes, Michael agrees to represent Phyllis – and then drives straight to the Newman ranch to deliver the news to his longtime client himself.

The timing could not be worse. Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) is at the ranch trying to push Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) toward reconciling with NikkiMichael walks right into the middle of that conversation and announces he is taking Phyllis’s case.

Victor’s reaction? Pure rage. He calls it a betrayal and orders Michael off the property. Don’t be surprised if this is the moment Victor regrets for the rest of the May sweeps. Michael knows where every Newman body is buried, and the moustache just turned his most loyal fixer into his most dangerous enemy.

Phyllis Bails Out and Plots Her War

Yes, Michael bails Phyllis out and meets her and Lauren back at Summers Conglomerate. Michael Baldwin warns that fighting fake evidence while defending the underlying takeover is going to be a nightmare. He tells Phyllis that Christine would prefer to avoid a trial – but if this goes to court, the DA will be out for blood.

Could this mean a plea deal is on the table? Don’t bet on it. Phyllis has never backed down from a fight in her life, and giving up Summers Conglomerate is not happening.

Nick Confesses Opioid Addiction To Nikki

Meanwhile at Society, Nick sits down with Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and finally comes clean. He tells her he started messing around with opioids after his pain meds ran out. He admits Adam noticed how bad it got in Vegas. And he reveals the tainted batch Matt Clark slipped him nearly killed him.

Nikki is horrified. Nick assures her Sharon got him into a treatment program and he is committed to recovery. He tries one more time to broker peace between his parents – but both Nikki and Victor reject any chance of reconciliation when she shows up at the ranch later.

What’s Next for Michael Baldwin and Victor?

Could this mean the end of the longest fixer alliance on Y&R? My gut tells me Michael Baldwin is about to become the most dangerous man in Genoa City. Don’t be surprised if Michael uses everything he knows about Victor to dismantle this AI frame-up case piece by piece.

Given Victor’s history of overplaying his hand, this has all the makings of his biggest miscalculation in decades. Christine has the badge. Lauren has the loyalty. Phyllis has her attorney back in her corner. The moustache might have just lit the match that burns down his own empire.

Sound off in the comments below! Is Michael doing the right thing by defending Phyllis, or did he just sign his own death warrant with Victor? We want to hear your hot takes!
