JACOB CUFFS SMITTY IN THIS BEYOND THE GATES RECAP
TL;DR: This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Jacob Hawthorne arresting Smitty after a stash of pills turned up in his home, plus Nicole Dupree Richardson sobbing over Ted Richardson’s engagement, Hayley Lawson eyeing her divorce payday from Bill Hamilton, and Tyrell Richardson stuck between Francesca Belleclaire and Jessica while Anastasia stirs the pot.

Smitty Meets the Handcuffs
Smitty spent the morning hovering around his house like a man who believed hovering counted as laying low. Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne found him fretting over Martin Richardson’s campaign, since he was steering clear of every public event so the opposition would not get a free gift. Smitty could not stomach the idea of being the reason his husband lost the election.
Naomi, who doubled as his attorney, gushed about how deeply she trusted Jacob Hawthorne to clear Smitty’s name. She was still mid-compliment when her husband strolled in with a team of officers and a warrant. Nothing says “I believe in you” like a search party arriving on cue.
The officers tore through the place, and Jacob fished out a stash of pills wedged behind a paperback. He leaped straight to the conclusion that they matched the ones that ended Lia Whitmore, which left him no choice but to put Smitty in cuffs. Whoever planted them clearly knew a bookshelf is where secrets go to thicken, and for a man who writes for a living, the irony was almost too neat.
Earlier, inside headquarters, Jacob had been in a rare good mood. Darlene Hawthorne treated Izaiah Hawthorne, whom she openly ranked above her other kid, to a meal, and the talk drifted to Jacob’s struggle to corner the Impaler, and Elon Hawthorne wandered over with fresh intel. Izaiah collected the hundred dollars he had won from their father, Elon paid up with a laugh, and Jacob basked in the sight of his dad grinning beside his brother. Then Jacob read the new information and found it a bit much, which makes the sudden warrant even more fascinating.
Across town at Orphie’s, Martin worked the room. A constituent named Mr. Chickley grumbled that his landlord kept hiking the rent, and Martin promised to hunt for affordable housing. A reporter reminded him that she had attended his press conference last year and wanted to know what he had planned to say. Martin froze, scrambled, and produced a cover story smooth enough to satisfy her. Later, he thanked everyone for their support, gave Smitty a personal shout-out, and explained that he was unable to attend. Understatement of the year.

Nicole Cracks Over Ted’s Ring
Shanice Johnson floated into the hospital waving her engagement ring at Ashley Morgan, who squealed and hugged her on the spot. Nicole Dupree Richardson arrived to find out the news secondhand, and Shanice dangled the diamond like bait. Nicole wished them both every happiness and complimented the future bride, which is the kind of grace that costs a woman something. Ted Richardson trailed after her to check on her, she insisted she was fine, and then she shut herself in her office, locked the door, and fell apart. A tearful phone call followed, begging her sister to come over.
That sister, Dani Dupree, had spent the morning snuggled up with Andre Richardson, the two of them congratulating each other on their communication skills and marriage built on trust, a boast that deserved a raised eyebrow after the last few weeks. When Nicole’s call came through, Dani heard the tears and rushed out.
Nearby, Monica Jackson caught wind of the engagement and offered congratulations while Shanice retold the proposal. Meanwhile, Ted saw Dani sprint off and assumed Nicole was upset about the ring. Guilt washed over him, and he wished to speak with her, yet Andre told him to leave it to Dani.
Behind the locked door, Nicole sobbed that Ted was engaged. Twelve months earlier, he had been pleading for a second chance, and now he was planning a wedding. Dani offered the theory that some men simply cannot function without a partner. Nicole confessed she had believed she was over him, and she pointed out that she had handed Kial Rollins a key to her home only days ago. Dani wondered aloud whether her sister still carried a torch for her former husband. Nicole denied it, but admitted old wounds had never healed, and she felt a knife twisting in her chest.
Outside, the wedding party took shape. Shanice named Ashley her top bridesmaid, while Andre agreed to stand beside his uncle as best man, a plan Martin had reportedly cooked up because his campaign schedule left no room. Nothing soothes a sobbing ex quite like a seating chart.
Hayley Eyes Her Payday
Hayley Lawson dropped by Bill Hamilton’s workplace wearing the expression of a woman who had been summoned and resented it. Bill was convinced he had erased her smirk, and Hayley fought the urge to roll her eyes. She had come only because Caroline Lee texted her, and Bill sneered that she was not even competent at running a scam.
Hayley skimmed the divorce settlement and its details on the prenup money and the St. Bart’s house, then asked if she could leave. Bill wanted her signature and reminded her that she was lucky to still be breathing, which is a bold thing to say to a woman who had already ruined his week. He warned her with a glare against any funny business.
Hayley responded with a confession so casual it could have been small talk: she wished she had come up with a quicker method of eliminating him. Bill insisted that all he had ever wanted was a wife. Hayley corrected the record, telling him he wanted Dani. Before sighing and shuffling off, she added that Andre had stayed faithful to Dani, so Bill’s chances of winning his ex back looked grim. Romance really is dead, and it left a settlement.

Tyrell’s Love Triangle Takes Over Orphie’s
The younger-set drama at the cafe kicked off when Kat Richardson, Samantha Richardson-Smith, and Tyrell Richardson clashed over his relationship with Francesca Belleclaire. Kat handed out chores to cool tempers. Francesca, better known as Chessie, arrived and hugged Tyrell, and Samantha sneered. Chessie offered to help hang campaign signs, while Kat suspected Tyrell was genuinely into her and Samantha suspected she was using him to get even over a Platinum Deb loss.
Then Jessica walked in, spotted Tyrell beside Chessie, and was stunned. She announced that she was back, that UCLA was overwhelming, and that she wanted him back. Chessie reminded everyone he was taken. Jessica called it a rebound. Kat and Samantha reminded them they were in front of a crowd and that Martin needed no scandal. Tyrell asked for breathing room, which sent Chessie running off, hurt. A certified chess genius, outplayed by two queens.
Meanwhile, Anita Dupree and Vernon Dupree were enjoying a quiet meal at the club until Anastasia pulled up a chair and demanded they end the Tyrell and Chessie travesty. Anita was annoyed, and Vernon pointed out that the boy was a chess champion of international fame. Anastasia would not listen, so Vernon asked whether she had learned anything from Shakespeare. She spelled out her objection: Tyrell was a drug addict’s son. Anita countered that Tyrell’s fathers were an elected Congressman and a decorated reporter, a line that would have landed harder if the reporter were not in handcuffs. Anastasia insisted bad blood could be hereditary, and Anita shamed her.
Chessie turned up, begged them to stop Tyrell from running back to the girl who dumped him, and left with Anastasia. Chessie explained Jessica’s return to her grandmother, who advised her to give Tyrell room. Anita and Vernon headed to Orphie’s, fearing more drama.
There, Tyrell and Jessica talked it over, and she mused about switching to his campus. Martin welcomed her home and then rescued Tyrell by handing him a task. Samantha was delighted that Jessica had come back to fix things with her brother and swore to back her, since she had zero interest in seeing him with “that troll.” When Vernon and Anita arrived, Vernon chatted with Jessica about her return, and Anita told Tyrell there was no rush in choosing which girl suited him.
