GH Spoilers: Jason Morgan’s Normal Relationship Curse – 30 Years of Choosing Carly Over Love
General Hospital’s Jason Morgan faces harsh reality as Britt returns. After choosing to stay “dead” for Carly over his own children, can Stone Cold ever have a normal relationship? Fans demand he finally put love and family first.
JASON MORGAN’S RELATIONSHIP CURSE: WHY STONE COLD CAN’T PUT LOVE FIRST
Has Any Man in Daytime History Sacrificed More for Another Woman Than Jason Morgan Has for Carly?
Let’s get brutally honest here, soap fans. Jason Morgan is fundamentally broken when it comes to love. And I’m not talking about your typical soap opera dysfunction—this goes WAY deeper. For thirty years, we’ve watched this man systematically destroy every chance at happiness, every romantic relationship, every opportunity for a normal life. Why? Because Carly Corinthos will ALWAYS come first.
Always. Without exception. Without question.
And now Britt Westbourne is back from the dead, forcing us to confront an uncomfortable truth: Can a man who let his own children believe he was DEAD for over two years—all to protect Carly from prison—ever truly love anyone else?
The Pattern That Destroys Everything
Here’s what kills me about Jason‘s story. This isn’t some grand romantic gesture we’re talking about. This is pathology.
Think about it. Really think about it.
Robin Scorpio? She couldn’t handle his mob life, sure, but more than that—she couldn’t handle always being second to Sonny and Carly‘s needs. Elizabeth Webber? Jason repeatedly abandoned her and their son Jake whenever the Corinthos family needed him. She finally had enough when he lied about faking Sonny’s death. Sam McCall? The mother of his son Danny? Even she—a woman who understood and accepted the danger—eventually realized their children would never be Jason’s priority.
Each relationship. Same result. Same reason.
But Britt? She was different.
The Britt Westbourne Anomaly
I’ll never forget how refreshing “Jritt” was when it first started. For once—ONCE!—Jason wasn’t playing savior. Britt didn’t need protecting. The daughter of supervillains Cesar Faison and Liesl Obrecht, she could handle herself just fine, thank you very much. She made him smile. Actually SMILE! When was the last time we saw Stone Cold genuinely happy?
Their connection felt equal. Balanced. Real.
And what did Jason do with this gift? This chance at actual happiness?
He threw it away. Just like he throws everything away. For Carly.
The Ultimate Betrayal
The moment that still makes my blood boil? When Jason showed up at Britt’s apartment to tell her he was marrying Carly. They were literally about to go on their first real date! And he just… ended it. Because rival mob families were threatening, and he needed to present a “united front” with Carly as the new mob boss.
But here’s the kicker—and this is what Britt fans need to really process—he didn’t just marry Carly.
He fell in LOVE with her during that marriage.
Let that sink in.
While Britt mourned him after his “death,” while she grieved for over a year for a man she’d barely had time to love, Jason was catching feelings for the woman he swears is just his “best friend.”
How is that just friendship? Someone explain it to me, because I don’t get it!
The Children Always Pay the Price
And then—as if the Carly marriage wasn’t enough—we learned the truth about Jason’s absence from 2021-2024. This man, this FATHER, allowed Jake and Danny to believe he was dead. For YEARS. These children grieved their father, struggled with that loss, reshaped their entire lives around his absence.
Why?
To save Carly from RICO charges.
I need every Jason fan to really absorb that. He chose Carly’s freedom over his children’s emotional wellbeing. He chose protecting her over being present for his sons during crucial years of their development.
That’s not loyalty. That’s sickness.
Why Would Britt Take Him Back?
So now Britt’s alive (because soap opera death is rarely permanent), and everyone’s excited about a potential Jritt reunion. But can we be real for a second?
Why would she want him?
Britt made it crystal clear—she didn’t want to come second to Carly. And Jason proved, definitively, that she would ALWAYS be second. Third, actually, if we’re counting Sonny. Fourth if we include Michael.
She’s supposedly survived death twice now. She’s discovered she’s a mother herself (to Rocco Falconeri, through surrogacy). Would a woman who’s fought that hard to survive, who understands what it means to be a mother, really accept a man who prioritizes another woman over his own children?
I wouldn’t. Would you?
The Harsh Reality No One Wants to Face
Here’s what three decades of watching Jason Morgan has taught us: He. Cannot. Change.
Robin couldn’t fix him. Elizabeth couldn’t save him. Sam tried for years and finally gave up. Each woman thought she’d be different. Each woman believed their love would be enough to break through.
It never is. It never will be.
Because Jason’s loyalty to the Corinthos family isn’t just a character trait—it’s his entire identity. After his brain injury in 1995, after losing all memory of being Jason Quartermaine, Sonny gave him purpose. Structure. A new life. To betray that loyalty would be to lose himself entirely.
And he’d rather lose everything else—love, children, freedom, happiness—than risk that.
What Happens Next?
Look, I want to believe this time could be different. Part of me—the romantic part that still believes in soap opera miracles—wants to think that seeing Britt again, having her back from the dead, will finally wake Jason up.
But the realist in me? The one who’s watched this pattern play out over and over?
She knows better.
If General Hospital reunites Jritt without addressing Jason’s fundamental dysfunction, without him getting serious psychological help, without him FINALLY learning to put someone—ANYONE—ahead of Carly?
Then they’re just setting Britt up for more heartbreak. And honestly? She deserves so much better than being another casualty in Jason Morgan’s graveyard of failed relationships.
The Bottom Line
Jason Morgan cannot have a normal relationship. Not because he doesn’t want to. Not because he doesn’t try. But because at his core, he is psychologically incapable of putting any romantic partner above his obligations to Carly, Sonny, and Michael.
Britt’s return isn’t a second chance at love—it’s a test. Will Jason finally, FINALLY realize what his toxic loyalty has cost him? Will he look at what he’s lost—the years with his children, the women who loved him, the life he could have had—and choose differently?
Or will Britt just become another name on the list of women who learned the hard way that in Jason’s world, Carly always wins?
I think we all know the answer. And that’s the real tragedy here.
What do YOU think? Can Jason Morgan ever truly put love first, or is he doomed to repeat this pattern forever? Sound off in the comments—I need to know I’m not alone in my frustration!
