TL;DR: Drew Cain is trapped in his own body but he’s not going anywhere and neither is Cameron Mathison. We have very mixed emotions about this on General Hospital because Drew is THE WORST but Cameron is a treasure.

Drew Cain Lives and We’re Conflicted

So here’s where we’re at on General Hospital: Drew Cain is currently trapped in his own body after his wife Willow Tait drugged him with a syringe and caused a stroke. He can’t move. He can’t talk. He’s living his worst nightmare.

And honestly? We’re not mad about it.

Drew has been TERRIBLE. He’s terrorized Willow. He’s blackmailed Portia Robinson. He’s gone after Stella Henry. He tried to destroy Michael Corinthos. He’s been a menace to everyone in Port Charles and karma finally caught up with him in the form of a syringe-wielding wife who smiled while she disposed of the evidence.

So when rumors started swirling that Mathison might be leaving, part of us thought “good riddance Drew Cain, you won’t be missed.”

But then we remembered: we don’t actually want Cameron to go anywhere.

Cameron Mathison Stays and We’re Thrilled

Here’s the good news: Cameron isn’t going anywhere. According to Soap Opera Digest, sources at the show confirmed that Mathison is not slated to exit anytime soon. He’s been playing Drew since August 2021 — that’s over four years of making us love to hate this character. He takes occasional breaks for other projects like his game show Beat the Bridge or his movies for Great American Family, and right now he’s promoting GAF’s 2026 programming. But he’s not leaving GH.

Cameron is too talented and too charming to lose. The man makes us DESPISE Drew with every fiber of our being and that takes SKILL. You don’t get that level of hatred for a character unless the actor is absolutely crushing it. And Cameron Mathison crushes it every single day.

So yes, Drew Cain gets to live another day. We’re not thrilled about THAT part. But if keeping Drew means keeping Cameron on our screens, we’ll take the trade.

The Duality of Soap Fandom

This is the beautiful torture of being a soap fan. Sometimes you hate a character SO MUCH that you want them gone forever, but you love the actor SO MUCH that you never want them to leave. Mathison has put us in this impossible position and we respect it.

Drew can stay trapped in his own body for all we care. Willow can keep smiling about what she did. But Cameron? He better stay in Port Charles for as long as he wants because that man is a gift.

Unfortunately Drew lives. Fortunately Cameron stays. We’ll take the win where we can get it.
