Let Us Set the Scene

Daphne Rose walked Melissa Dylan through body chemistry and perfume in the Forrester design office on Thursday on The Bold and the Beautiful. She explained how scent interacts uniquely with skin. She gave Dylan a custom bottle. She told her to wear it on her next date because she was sure Dylan has no trouble meeting men.

Dylan does not have a next date. Dylan is not dating right now because she is focused on work and on repairing her friendship with Electra Forrester. Then Electra walked in. Then Dylan apologized. Then Electra accepted, sort of. Daphne left them alone. The two women congratulated each other on their jobs and the audience exhaled because finally, finally, something at Forrester Creations felt close to fixed.

Not quite.

Dylan Wears It Anyway

Dylan does not have a date. But Dylan has a perfume bottle she was just told is uniquely matched to her skin, and Dylan is a woman who has spent the last six months feeling unmoored. So Dylan dabs it on before work the next morning. Just a little. Just enough to feel like a woman who deserves nice things.

She wears it to Forrester. She wears it around Will Spencer. She wears it through three meetings, two design reviews, and one accidental brush past Will in a doorway where his shoulder catches against hers and they both pretend not to notice.

The scent transfers. Will goes home smelling like Dylan and does not know it.

Will Comes Home Wearing Her

When Will gets back to the beach house, Electra is there. Maybe she is dropping off something. Maybe she is there because they are slowly figuring out whether their relationship has a future. She hugs him.

And something is off.

Electra cannot place it at first. It is a scent she does not know but feels like she does. It is feminine and floral and warm and right against the back of his neck where she has put her face a thousand times. She pulls back. She does not say anything. But something is off.

The next morning she walks into the design office and Daphne offers to walk her through perfume selection because she has the perfect bottle in mind. As Daphne lifts a sample to Electra Forrester’s wrist, Electra recognizes the scent immediately.

It is the one Daphne gave Dylan.

The Apology Evaporates and the War Starts Over

Here is the part that is going to keep B&B fans up.

Electra Forrester just forgave Dylan. Yesterday. With tears in her eyes. With her hand on her best friend’s arm. She just opened the door back up to friendship, to civility, to the possibility that they could work in the same building without it being a slow motion war. She did it because Dylan looked her in the face and said she was sorry and she believed her.

Now Electra is standing in the design office with a sample on her wrist that matches the scent she caught on her boyfriend’s neck, and the apology is going to evaporate. Not because Dylan slept with Will. Not because Dylan wanted to. But because Electra Forrester is going to draw the conclusion any woman in her position would draw.

This is the trap nobody set on purpose. Daphne gave the perfume innocently. Dylan wore it innocently. Will absorbed it innocently. Electra is going to walk back out of that design office having decided her best friend lied to her face, and the war will restart louder than before.
