Y&R alum Kelly Kruger has joined General Hospital as the recast Serena Baldwin, with filming starting June 8 and her debut set for July.

A Familiar Daytime Face Heads to Port Charles
General Hospital has added a familiar daytime face to the canvas. According to an exclusive report from TV Insider, Kelly Kruger has joined the cast of General Hospital in the recast role of Serena Baldwin, with filming officially beginning on Monday, June 8, and an on-screen debut set for July.
Kruger is no stranger to daytime. She got her soap start on The Young and the Restless as Mackenzie Browning, a role she played from 2002 to 2003 and again from 2018 to 2019. She has also appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful as Eva.
Her primetime credits include Criminal Minds, Entourage, and a string of Hallmark movies, including A Very Corgi Christmas. In other words, the actress lands in Port Charles with a stacked resume and serious daytime chops.
Kruger told the outlet, “It’s a literal dream come true to finally get to work with Frank Valentini,” referencing the longtime General Hospital executive producer. She added that working with the show’s actors and writers has been a long-standing goal of hers and that she considers the talent on the canvas to be the best in the business.

Serena Baldwin’s Layered Port Charles Backstory
Serena Baldwin returns to the canvas with one of the more layered backstories in Port Charles history. The character was previously played by Carly Schroeder and is the biological daughter of Scott Baldwin and the late Dominique Stanton.
Lucy Coe famously served as their surrogate, since Dominique was dying from an inoperable brain tumor and passed away before Serena was born. Scott and Lucy named Serena after Dominique’s family estate, Serenity, and Scott left town soon afterward with his infant daughter and a substantial inheritance from Dominique’s will.
The character’s story later moved over to the GH spin-off Port Charles in 1997, where Scott returned to town with her. Serena’s childhood on the soap was the stuff of full-throttle daytime storytelling.
The character endured multiple kidnappings, a bout of temporary blindness, and a corneal transplant before Serena Baldwin’s last on-screen appearance in 2017, when she joined Scott and Lucy at the Metro Court Hotel to mourn the late Lee Baldwin, Scott’s father and her grandfather.
Although Serena has been off-screen since then, she has not been forgotten. In 2022, Scott revealed that he needed to travel to the Faroe Islands, where Serena had been arrested after an altercation with dolphin hunters. The detail tells you exactly the kind of woman Serena has grown into, and it sets up a fascinating reentry for the recast version of the character.
Serena’s Built-In Port Charles Family
Serena Baldwin also has built-in ties to several current Port Charles residents. In addition to Lucy, the character is biologically linked to Cody Bell, the son Dominique gave up before she passed. That makes Cody and Serena half-siblings on the canvas, which opens up a fully unexplored emotional storyline the show can run with immediately.
Who Is Kelly Kruger Outside of Port Charles?
Beyond her daytime work, Kruger has built a thriving second career as a beauty content creator. She is one of TikTok’s most influential names in the space and was named TikTok Shop’s Beauty Creator of the Year in 2025.
She also shares two daughters with her ex, Darin Brooks, who currently plays Wyatt Spencer on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Executive Producer Frank Valentini also confirmed his enthusiasm about the casting, calling Kruger a terrific actor and expressing excitement about working with her on the canvas going forward. The Valentini stamp of approval on a recast usually signals the show has plans to invest in the character.
