Diane Jenkins Wakes Up Locked Inside a Stranger’s House

Diane Jenkins stumbles around a strange room calling for HELP. She wanders, wondering if this is a NIGHTMARE. She tries the DOORS. They are LOCKED. Reader, the woman has been off-canvas for a beat and Y&R brings her back as a HOSTAGE. As she scans the books on the shelves, she notices many of them are by Alan Laurent. She grabs a LETTER OPENER and starts jiggling at the lock.

Then Dr. Laurence Markham walks IN. Played by Jere Burns. Reader. Y&R casts Jere Burns and we KNOW what that means. Diane Jenkins waves the letter opener and DEMANDS answers. He wants to evaluate her EMOTIONAL state. “It’s NOT good!” she snaps. He tells her wielding the letter opener is a CAUSE for concern. He explains he is a PSYCHIATRIST. He tells her this is his private RESIDENCE. He is assessing her to determine where she should go NEXT. Reader, Y&R locks Diane in with a Jere Burns character and we are NEVER coming back.

Jack Calls the Cops at the Abbott Estate

Jack Abbott flashes back to Diane slapping him after catching him in bed with Patty. Kyle Abbott joins him to explain that NO ONE has seen Diane. He is surprised she even agreed to go to the fundraiser in Maryland. He thought the storm pulled his parents CLOSER together. Then Jack gets a call from his PI. Diane has not been in her room at the club in DAYS. Jack calls Det. Burrow.

The cop arrives. They fill him in on Diane being GONE for several days. Jack is convinced Patty Williams is behind this. She is a dangerous LUNATIC. Burrow says he will TALK to her. He asks about the marriage. Jack admits they are SEPARATED. The cop wonders if she has taken a BREAK. Has she ever taken off BEFORE? Jack and Kyle grumble and remember that Diane disappeared for YEARS once. They worry she could be doing it AGAIN. Jack does NOT buy it. He is sure this is ALL Patty.

Traci Spots Patty With a Mystery Man at the Café

At the Chancellor Park Café, a man named Laurence joins Patty and tells her things went like CLOCKWORK. She hands him a bunch of CASH under the table. Traci Abbott spots them and calls her brother. Laurence leaves as Traci walks over. Traci tells Patty to stuff her PHONY pleasantries.

Traci demands to know who the man was. Patty accuses her of being MELODRAMATIC and claims he was her DOCTOR. Patty claims he is a very serious doctor and starts APOLOGIZING for all she has done. Traci reminds her that she KILLED her daughter. Then Jack arrives and demands to know what she has done with his wife. Patty says Diane saw the writing on the wall and FLEW the coup. Jack says he has called the POLICE. Patty is SURE he will NOT get the answers he is expecting. Reader, Patty is RUNNING this game and the Abbotts are SCRAMBLING.

Dr. Laurence Markham Tells Diane She Had a Breakdown

Back at the locked house, Laurence picks up the letter opener and offers to make TEA. “What the hell is happening?” Diane wonders. He returns with the tea and drinks some to show it is NOT drugged. He explains he found her SCREAMING in her car by the side of the road. He called the POLICE. The police called Jack. Her husband AGREED she had a breakdown and AGREED Laurence should take her and make her BETTER.

Diane Jenkins insists NONE of that happened. He thinks she has had a nervous breakdown and is in DENIAL. She suggests he take her to a PROFESSIONAL clinic. Reader, Y&R is running the “no one believes the woman” PLAYBOOK and we are ENRAGED in the best possible way. This is V.C. Andrews tier. The book club has CONVENED.

Patty Shows Jack a Photo and Makes Her Demand

Patty arrives at the Abbott Estate. Jack lets her IN. She offers a drink. He REFUSES. Then Patty pulls out her phone and shows him a picture of UNCONSCIOUS Diane in a bed. Reader. SCREAMING. Jack demands to know where she is. Patty claims she has been trying to PROTECT him from the crazy woman he calls his wife. She says his wife had a “tragic” BREAKDOWN and is where she NEEDS to be. Her psyche SHATTERED. She is being cared for.

Patty taunts Jack about not being able to control his hands around her. She says Diane will NEVER return to him. She is no longer an OPTION. It is time for him to make a DIFFERENT choice. That choice is HER. They should be TOGETHER. “You don’t want anything unexpected to happen to Diane, do you?” Patty asks. Jack says she cannot blackmail him into a RELATIONSHIP. “I prefer to call it kismet,” Patty says. The universe INTENDED this. Reader, Patty Williams is the most UNHINGED woman on daytime and we are taking NOTES.
