Nick Newman Meets His Match in Marie Kirkland

It is a roughย night forย Young and the Restlessย fans watchingย Nick Newmanย circle the drain.ย He is holed up at the Park Motel hidingย from his own life. Enterย Marie Kirkland, theย neighbor with a pharmacy’s worth ofย options and zero patience for hisย denial.

She clocks him as a user in about two seconds flat. He insists he’s clean, sort of, and admits he’s due back in rehab come morning.

Marie is unmoved. She’s heard every sob story in the book and always ends up right back where she started.

The Confessions Start Flowing

Nick tries to save her, because of course he does, and she calls it exactly what it is. He admits his hero complex is what gets him hurt, chasing down a bad guy who gets the better of him. Marie’s got her own scars from a car accident that turns into a pill habit, and neither of them is walking away from this conversation unscathed.

He flushes the pills. He really does. But then his phone lights up with more, because chaos doesn’t take a night off because someone makes a promise to themselves.

Marie returns for her key at exactly the wrong moment, and his resolve is nowhere to be found by the time she leaves again.

A Relapse Nobody’s Surprised By

Nick Newman and Marie Kirkland take the pills together. She talks about her husband not understanding her, about how the high is the only thing that makes her feel safe. Nick admits they’re never getting out of this, and for once, he’s not arguing. The two of them fall into bed, and rehab has never felt further away.

Meanwhile at Crimson Lights, Victoria Newman is falling apart over her missing brother, and Kyle Abbott is right there to catch her. Jack Abbott stops by long enough to remind everyone that addicts resurface on their own timeline before getting pulled away by a call from Diane Jenkins. Left alone, Victoria cries on Kyle’s shoulder, and the two nearly kiss before Jack interrupts and spares them both from a moment neither one is ready to explain.

Devon Winters Blindsides the Family

At Lily’s penthouse, Devon Winters drops a bombshell nobody sees coming. His son’s kidnapping cracks something open in him, and he’s decided to step away from the business entirely to build a liberal arts college in Neil’s name.

Lily Winters and Abby Newman insist none of this is on him, but Devon’s clearly been sitting with this for a while. He’s redirecting his billions somewhere he thinks Neil would be proud of, and Lily hugs him like it’s the closest thing to keeping their father alive.

Nate Hastings admits he’s been eyeing a return to medicine himself, now that Devon’s exit cracks the door back open. Over at Society, Abby confirms she’s fully on board, and they seal it with a kiss.
