EZRA BOYLE IS RUNNING THE MAYOR’S OFFICE WITH LAURA COLLINS OUT OF THE COUNTRY, AND HIS JOKE ABOUT SONNY CORINTHOS WASN’T REALLY A JOKE

Laura Collins packed her bags for Ireland and handed the mayor’s office over to a man everyone else in the room clearly didn’t trust. On General Hospital, Ezra Boyle now has unsupervised access to real power, and his first move was joking about taking down Sonny Corinthos in front of two women who weren’t laughing.

A Trip To Ireland Leaves The Door Wide Open

Laura Collins met with Anna Devane and Justine Turner to announce she was taking a personal leave to visit Kevin and Ace in Ireland. While she was gone, the Deputy Mayor would technically be in charge, but the real day-to-day work would fall to Ezra Boyle. Justine and Anna immediately pushed back hard, citing his sketchy reputation and the kind of connections that make people in Port Charles nervous. Neither of them looked convinced that a second chance was the same thing as a safe bet, and their instincts have rarely been wrong before.

Laura brushed off their concerns, reminding the room that Ezra had helped bring Jenz Sidwell to justice and insisting everyone deserved a second chance. The comment sent Anna spiraling into a flashback of her own captivity, though she covered quickly. When the group finally sat down with Ezra himself, he vowed to work seamlessly with everyone left behind, and then made a joke that landed with a thud: maybe the three of them could finally bring down Sonny Corinthos while Laura was away. Nobody laughed at all, and the silence that followed said more than any of them wanted to admit out loud, Laura included.

Helping Take Down Sidwell Doesn’t Make Ezra Trustworthy

Laura Collins wants everyone to believe Ezra Boyle earned his second chance the moment he helped put Jenz Sidwell away, but usefulness and trustworthiness have never been the same thing in Port Charles. Plenty of people have done one good deed while quietly working an angle nobody else could see, and Anna Devane and Justine Turner’s discomfort wasn’t coming out of nowhere. They know this town well enough to trust their instincts, even when Laura doesn’t.

Laura even admitted she wouldn’t be around to keep an eye on Ezra, warning him directly not to take the job lightly. That’s the kind of line a woman says when she already suspects the man might need watching, even if she’s not ready to say it out loud. Handing him real power the same day she says that out loud is a contradiction that should worry everyone in that office, Laura included, whether she wants to admit it or not.

A Joke About Sonny Rarely Stays A Joke

Ezra Boyle didn’t need to bring up Sonny Corinthos at all, and yet he did, framing it as a throwaway line about what the three of them could accomplish together. Jokes like that tend to reveal exactly what’s already on someone’s mind, and Sonny has more enemies in this town than almost anyone else walking around free. Nobody chooses that particular target by accident, and Ezra had a whole office of possible targets to joke about before landing on him.

If Ezra really does have lingering connections from his past, a temporary seat of power inside the mayor’s office is the perfect place to quietly settle old scores. Nobody’s watching closely enough right now to notice if a joke about taking down Sonny turns into an actual plan, and that’s exactly the kind of gap a patient man knows how to exploit while everyone else is distracted with packing suitcases and worrying about Anna.

The Timing Here Is Too Convenient To Ignore

Laura Collins didn’t have to leave for Ireland this particular week, and Ezra Boyle didn’t have to make that joke about Sonny Corinthos the very same day he took over on General Hospital. Both things happened anyway, and in a town built on coincidences that turn out to be nothing of the sort, that timing deserves a second look. Sometimes the most dangerous plans are the ones that get made in plain sight, disguised as nothing more than a bad joke nobody bothered to question until it was already too late to stop it.

Sound off in the comments: is Ezra Boyle exactly who he claims to be, or is Laura about to regret trusting him?

Laura’s Trust Might Be Misplaced

Laura Collins left Port Charles believing she’d handed the mayor’s office to someone who’d earned a second chance, but her own warning to Ezra Boyle suggests even she isn’t fully convinced. Anna Devane and Justine Turner already flagged him as a risk, and a joke about targeting Sonny Corinthos landed with exactly the kind of silence that should worry everyone involved. On General Hospital, unsupervised power has a way of revealing who someone really is.
