Sydney DiMera, played by newcomer Sydney Malakeh, turns up this week at a high stakes poker table in Monte Carlo, and her mother Sami Brady is nowhere near her. The casting notes say Wednesday and the daily grids say Thursday, when she crashes the game Philip Kiriakis is playing with Gabi Hernandez on his arm as a pretend fiancee. Either way, she is here, and she came alone.

Her father found that out the hard way. On Tuesday EJ DiMera flew the DiMera jet to Italy to surprise his little girl and learned she was not there. A DiMera child who slips her father’s leash and surfaces at a card table with two hundred million dollars in play is not on vacation. She is up to something.

The timing is what has the Salem faithful whispering. Sami herself is not back until a new storyline with Carrie, Lucas and Will streams in June 2027. So the daughter arrives unsupervised, and the man Sami announced as her fiance last fall arrives five days later. Every DOOL spoiler roundup lists the two debuts as separate items. I do not buy it.

Sami is not coming back because her next chapter is already taped and does not stream until June 2027. Alison Sweeney filmed a major arc over the summer alongside Carrie, Lucas and Will. So the daughter and the fiance both show up in September while the woman who connects them stays off screen for nine months. On a soap, a gap like that is never an accident. It is a runway.

Here is the connection the circulating chatter keeps missing. The mansion sale, Philip’s Monte Carlo gamble and Sydney’s surprise appearance at that exact table are one story, not three. The cash offer came from an Italian billionaire, Sydney was supposed to be in Italy, and the fiance has been living in Italy under a Vitali surname that carries its own baggage in this town. I am not saying Dante Vitali bought the house. I am saying the writers put Italy in every one of these threads for a reason.

Wednesday also gives Steve Johnson a Coriseal update for his Black Patch partner Brady Black. Xander and a small circle of true believers are convinced EJ is behind the Coriseal cover-up, and none of them can prove it. If Steve hands Brady something real, EJ’s fall just got more dangerous while EJ is out of the country chasing a daughter who slipped his grasp.

Now for the part that has the audience shipping something they probably should not. Franco LoPresti debuts Monday, September 14 as Dante, five days after Sydney, and neither arrives with Sami. Could this mean Sydney and Dante share a secret her mother knows nothing about? A daughter on the run, a fiance on the way and a mother absent for nine months. If I know these writers, that triangle does not stay innocent.

My gut tells me the poker game is the tell. Somebody bankrolled her, somebody taught her, and somebody knew Philip would be at that table. Don’t be surprised if that somebody has a Vitali surname.
