DEANNA MCBRIDE CONSIDERS DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL AS DOUG MCBRIDE’S HALLUCINATION PUSHES HER TO TAKE DOWN JOEY ARMSTRONG, ALL IN TODAY’S BEYOND THE GATES RECAP
This Beyond the Gates Recap finds Deanna McBride wrestling with Doug McBride’s hallucination over whether to drop out of school and take another shot at Joey Armstrong. Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne finally tells Bill Hamilton the truth about Hayley Lawson’s fake ultrasound, while Anita Williams Dupree and Vernon Dupree bring Leslie Thomas and Eva Thomas to tears with a cassette of Barbara’s voice. By the end of the day, Deanna makes her choice and heads back to Uptown to tell Noah herself.
Deanna McBride Can’t Shake Her Father’s Ghost
At Uptown, Deanna McBride tells Noah she may take a semester off school to stay closer to home, even though her mom doesn’t want that. Noah sides with Vanessa and pushes Deanna to think about what her late father would want. Deanna admits her dad would side with her mom if he were alive, but since he’s gone, she thinks he’d actually want her to stay.
The moment Noah walks away, Doug McBride‘s hallucination reappears, pressuring Deanna to find dirt on Joey Armstrong all over again. Meanwhile, in the casino back room, Joey and Vanessa McBride debate whether their daughter’s real reason for staying is grief or Noah. Izaiah Hawthorne reluctantly agrees to talk her through it, warning the helicopter mom upfront that he’s no therapist.
Izaiah meets Deanna to walk through her options, and it’s clear Vanessa already briefed him on what to say. Deanna admits her real goal is getting her mother out of her “situationship” with Joey, and Izaiah reminds her that she can’t force anyone to change. In this Beyond the Gates Recap, that’s the moment Deanna McBride starts talking to Doug again instead of listening to good advice.
Doug McBride’s hallucination keeps pushing, needling her about finishing what he never could with Joey, and Deanna finally admits she doesn’t think she can do it. “Ouch,” the hallucination fires back, and something in that exchange seems to snap her out of it. Whatever this entire Beyond the Gates grief storyline still has planned for Deanna, she chooses school by the end of the day, heading back to Uptown to tell Noah herself.

Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne Finally Tells Bill Hamilton the Truth
Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne brings popcorn into Bill’s office while they wait on Mike, the opposing lawyer, to arrive with news on the motion to compel. Mike shows up gloating that he’s persuaded his client to settle out of court rather than chase the forty million dollars he thinks she deserves, and Bill Hamilton isn’t buying the sudden change of heart.
Once Mike leaves, the judge grants them a hearing on the motion to compel anyway, and Naomi admits she feels grubby being anywhere near the man. Bill apologizes for pushing Naomi to forgive Hayley Lawson, and when she asks what changed his mind, he claims everyone lies.
Naomi corrects him: this isn’t the first time, and she knows it for a fact. She finally tells him that Hayley never actually had an ultrasound, that the “proof” was a fake printed off the internet, tied somehow to Randy Parker and an alias named Sammy.
Bill is stunned, and even more rattled to learn Naomi has known for a while and kept quiet at Hayley’s request. Naomi explains Hayley begged her not to say anything, afraid Bill would blame her for losing the baby, and by the end of the conversation, Bill is left wondering what else his wife has been hiding.
Anita Williams Dupree Breaks Out an Old Cassette, and the Whole Room Falls Apart
At the Dupree mansion, Leslie Thomas and Eva Thomas show up while Anita Williams Dupree is home singing for Vernon Dupree. Leslie threatens to pull her mother’s vocal rights unless Vernon lets her in, and once inside, Eva admits she’s never actually heard her grandmother sing.
Anita explains all of Barbara’s recordings are locked away in a vault in Pennsylvania, but she surprises everyone with an old cassette of Barbara singing happy birthday to her years ago. It’s not professional, Anita warns, but she plays it anyway, and the room falls apart.
Eva calls it incredible, Leslie cries, and Leslie calls Dante Green a fool for ever disrespecting Barbara’s talent. Once the pair leave with a promised copy on the way, Vernon comforts Anita, who admits listening to that tape was harder than she expected.
Anita has misgivings about the past until Vernon reminds her they were only teenagers who never stood a real chance against Dante Green. It’s a rare quiet, tender moment for a family that usually runs on crisis.
