Tracy Quartermaine hears exactly what a divorce lawyer needs to win Brook Lynn full custody of Phoebe on GH, and she’s already smiling.

Tracy Quartermaine heard exactly what Alexis needed to hand Brook Lynn a clean divorce and full custody of Phoebe, and on General Hospital, the idea that lit up in Tracy’s head right afterward has one very specific, very unsuspecting name attached to it: Willow Tait.
A Divorce Built In The Dark
Behind Brook Lynn’s back, Tracy Quartermaine asked Alexis to start working on her granddaughter’s divorce from Chase, making absolutely sure Brook Lynn walked away with primary custody of Phoebe once everything was finalized. Alexis laid out the legal reality: Diane would need actual proof of infidelity to build a case on irreconcilable differences or emotional cruelty, and Brook Lynn would need to call the office herself to move forward and discuss strategy directly with Diane.
That’s the moment Tracy Quartermaine should have been stuck. She doesn’t have proof of anything, because as far as anyone’s told us, Chase hasn’t done anything to have proof of. Instead, Tracy “smiled smugly to herself” with, in her own words, “an idea planted in her mind,” a phrase that reads a lot less like relief and a lot more like a plan clicking into place. People who already have a solution don’t usually need a beat like that.

The Circling She Already Clocked
Here’s the detail that makes this more than a random smirk: in that same conversation, Tracy told Alexis that Chase had been “circling Willow Tait for months, but hadn’t crossed a line yet.” Tracy didn’t bring that up as a defense of her granddaughter’s marriage, and she didn’t bring it up to reassure anyone that Chase was innocent of anything. She brought it up right before Alexis explained exactly what kind of evidence a divorce lawyer would actually need to make a custody case stick.
Tracy Quartermaine already had the raw material sitting in her head before she ever smiled. All she needed from Alexis was the exact shape the evidence had to take, and Alexis handed it to her for free, in the same breath as agreeing to help.
One Smile, One Very Convenient Idea
Nobody manufactures a scandal out of nothing on General Hospital without a little help from circumstance, and Willow happens to be standing exactly where Tracy needs a headline to point. Ned Quartermaine even asked Chase, point-blank, whether his anger was really about Brook Lynn’s lie or about the fact that she framed Willow specifically, which means the family has already noticed there’s something unresolved sitting there for the taking, whether it’s real or not.
Chase had already forgiven Brook Lynn for the frame-up itself, and the two of them had agreed to no more secrets between them, which makes him an easy target for a lawyer who only needs the appearance of betrayal, not the real thing. Tracy Quartermaine doesn’t need Chase to actually cross a line with Willow. She needs a story convincing enough to hold up in a custody hearing, and Ned’s own question to Chase shows the family is already primed to see Willow as the sore spot.
Willow Doesn’t Even Know She’s In The Crosshairs
Willow Tait is currently dealing with her own crisis involving Drew’s threats and has absolutely no reason to think a Quartermaine matriarch is quietly building a legal case with her name on it. If Tracy gets Brook Lynn to make that call to Diane’s office, Willow could end up dragged into a custody fight she never asked to be part of, over a betrayal that, as far as we’ve actually seen, hasn’t happened yet. Add in that Curtis, sitting in Pentonville, is already furious that Brook Lynn is only facing a misdemeanor for everything her silence caused, and it’s clear the entire extended family is looking for someone else to blame for the wreckage Brook Lynn’s silence left behind.

The Real Victim Nobody’s Watching
Tracy has spent this entire arc protecting her granddaughter by any means necessary, and turning Willow into manufactured evidence would fit that pattern perfectly, right down to the smug little smile that started this whole theory. Brook Lynn gets her clean custody case, Chase gets blindsided by an accusation he can’t fully disprove, and Willow gets used as a prop in someone else’s divorce, without ever knowing she was cast in the role.
