THIS BEYOND THE GATES RECAP CATCHES HEATHER ARMSTRONG COZYING UP TO EVERYONE JOEY IS TRYING TO PROTECT

TL;DR: This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Joey Armstrong ordering Heather back to London after a chilling body-disposal joke, Izaiah Hawthorne’s sweet gesture for his mom colliding with a break in the Lia Whitmore case, Leslie Thomas hijacking her late mother’s recording sessions with an assist from a Y&R import, and Randy Parker and Vanessa McBride quietly drowning in guilt over Doug’s death.

A Reunion Nobody Asked For

Joey Armstrong wasted no time making his priorities clear at the casino. First, he had Randy Parker escort Vanessa McBride off the premises. Then he turned his full attention to the one person who never gets the hint: Heather Armstrong.

Once they were alone, Joey unloaded on Heather for buying her way into Uptown and setting up shop on his side of town. Her defense? She only wanted a legitimate business, which, coming from a woman nicknamed The Impaler, landed about as well as you’d expect. She admitted she was getting on his nerves and, instead of backing off, decided the moment called for a joke about buying Uptown specifically so she’d have somewhere to hide bodies. Joey isn’t about to loosen his foothold on this town for anyone: get back to London, he warned her, or don’t make him hurt her.

Heather swore she has no plans to stick around Fairmont Crest, a claim that aged badly within the hour. She turned up at Uptown anyway, needling Smitty about the fresh trouble he’d apparently caused with Nicole over talking to his kids, then introduced herself and swore up and down she’s nothing like Joey. A woman who jokes about corpse disposal thirty minutes earlier isn’t exactly a great character witness for herself.

By the time Vanessa circled back to the casino, Joey had already made his loyalties known without saying a word. He told her he’s glad to have her around. She told him he always will be. Heather can threaten to plant roots in Fairmont Crest all she wants โ€” Joey already knows exactly who he’s keeping close.

A Purse, a Purple Pouch, and a Very Bad Sign for Smitty

At the police station, Jacob Hawthorne and Elon Hawthorne were mid-conversation about closing the Impaler case when Izaiah Hawthorne walked in bearing gifts. Jacob’s instant read was that Izaiah had done something wrong. The actual crime turned out to be sentimental: a ChelseaKat purse for Darlene Hawthorne, the same bag Tomas Navarrorefused to accept days earlier. Izaiah simply happened to be standing there when the rejection happened, and he wasn’t about to let a designer bag go to waste. Darlene was thrilled, joking she’d hit Jacob “upside the head” with it the second he tried to grill Izaiah about where it came from.

Elon arrived in time to admire how expensive the purse looked, and once Izaiah slipped out, Darlene and Elon settled into a quiet, proud moment remembering the boys growing up. It didn’t last. The second Darlene left, Elon told Jacob they might have a break in the Lia Whitmore case, and it hits closer to home than anyone wants. Footage has surfaced showing Smitty meeting with someone named Max the day before he visited Lia in prison, and Max handed him a purple pouch that’s a dead ringer for the one found in Lia’s cell after she died.

Smitty spent this entire episode a few scenes away, gleefully reading fan comments on his article to Samantha Richardson and basking in his new status as a local hero. He has no idea investigators are quietly circling him. Enjoy the fifteen minutes, Smitty.

Leslie Thomas Turns a Recording Session Into a Turf War

Leslie Thomas couldn’t even let Izaiah’s purse moment go uncriticized, calling it a waste to Eva Thomas in the atrium. Eva reminded Leslie that Darlene has been nothing but kind and it’s time to return the favor, which didn’t stop Leslie from trying to tag along when Eva went to leave. Eva pointed her toward her own social life instead, suggesting she try bonding with Jan and the Articulettes. Leslie has her doubts anyone’s forming a friendship there, but she’s cautiously optimistic the project could still work out, insisting the whole point is protecting the people she loves.

Meanwhile at the club, Kat Richardson and Anita Dupree traded notes on ChelseaKat’s canceled Tokyo trip before Anita started venting about Leslie trying to claim a piece of the recording sessions. Kat’s read on Leslie: everybody in this family takes, but Leslie’s out here “putting her stank” on everything. Talk drifted to Kat’s newly decorated condo and her suspiciously empty calendar now that Tomas is always busy. Anita’s advice was simple: ups and downs happen, but trust your gut if something feels off. Kat decided a night at Uptown was in order.

The peace didn’t hold. After Kat left, Devon Winters called Anita to let her know Leslie had unilaterally changed the recording dates, and Anita summoned Leslie on the spot. She lectured her for rescheduling studio time without consulting anyone, reminding Leslie the agreement was to watch, not run things. Leslie’s response was to call herself owed, framing every demand as something she’s entitled to because of her mother’s legacy. Anita wasn’t having it, accusing her of climbing over everyone to get there, and Leslie fired back that Anita’s really just trying to ease her own guilt by making sure her mother’s memory gets treated right. Anita refused to let her run roughshod over the sessions, but she didn’t shut the door completely either.

Randy and Vanessa Carry the Same Guilty Secret

Over coffee in the atrium, Randy and Vanessa checked in on howย Deanna McBrideย has been doing, relieved that Izaiah managed to talk her into staying in school. The conversation drifted somewhere heavier: Doug, and everything they both regret. Vanessa admitted she still can’t shake the guilt of not being there the night he died. She was with Joey instead. Randy wasn’t sure she should be telling him that, but she couldn’t hold it in any longer. Whatever guilt Vanessa is carrying, Randy is carrying a version of it too, and neither of them said out loud exactly why.

A Quieter Corner of Fairmont Crest

Not everyone had a crisis on their hands. Samantha caught up with Eva in a booth to commiserate over ChelseaKat’s scrapped Tokyo trip, with Eva urging her to slow down and enjoy the perks of simply being a Platinum Deb. After Samantha left, Izaiah stopped by to tell Eva how much his mom loved her purse and how much he’s looking forward to more family time these days. Eva’s one-word reaction, an appreciative “Wow,” suggested she noticed more than the sentiment.

Across the club, Samantha ran into Anita with a new ask: a trip to Patagonia. Anita didn’t hesitate to offer to finance it. Some people in this family get lectured over recording sessions. Others just have to ask nicely.

Sound off in the comments below: is Heather really leaving Fairmont Crest, or is Joey wasting his breath?

Fairmont Crest Keeps Its Secrets Close

Heather says she’s leaving and clearly isn’t, Smitty’s celebrating a story that might be building his own alibi problem, Leslie’s turning a legacy into leverage, and Randy and Vanessa are sitting on a guilt they can’t quite name out loud. Nobody in this town says what they actually mean, and this episode proved it eight different ways.
