The Young and the Restless
A SON, A SECRET, AND AN OPEN DOOR! Y&R’s Shemar Moore Won’t Rule Out Malcolm Winters Walking Back Into Genoa City’s Messiest Family Drama
Shemar Moore says Malcolm Winters is never off the table on Y&R, and Genoa City has plenty of family drama waiting if he comes home.
SHEMAR MOORE KEEPS GENOA CITY’S DOOR WIDE OPEN FOR MALCOLM
TL;DR: Shemar Moore, who plays Malcolm Winters on Y&R, told Soaps.com that his new primetime gig is no goodbye to daytime. He’ll never shut out the soap that made him, and fans are already wondering what Malcolm would walk into if he came home.
Malcolm Has Family Business Waiting
Shemar Moore is suiting up as Hondo again over on primetime’s S.W.A.T.: Exiles, so the obvious question for Y&Rfans was whether Genoa City had lost him for good. Short answer? Not a chance. The actor insists daytime will always have a claim on him.
And the timing could not be juicier. Malcolm Winters found out this spring that Holden Novak is his son with Dr. Stephanie Simmons, and that father-son bond is still brand new. Holden has London plans to visit his dad, while Stephanie is keeping a spicy secret of her own: she’s been sneaking around with Nate Hastings, Malcolm’s adopted son. She and Nate may have rehearsed how to break it to Holden, but nobody has rehearsed breaking it to Malcolm.

Death Is Negotiable in Genoa City
The Emmy-winning star pointed out that none of his characters have truly bitten the dust, then happily owned the one time Malcolm sort of did. Longtime viewers remember the collapsing bridge in Kenya that left Malcolm presumed dead, and his miraculous stroll back into town years later with a survival story only a soap could get away with.
For Shemar Moore, every trip back is a thank-you to the people who raised him as an actor. He credited the late Kristoff St. John, whose Neil Winters was Malcolm’s big brother, along with Victoria Rowell, the original Drucilla Winters, and Tonya Lee Williams, who played Olivia Winters. That cast, he said, is where he did all his growing up, and he wouldn’t have a career without the soap.
Genoa City Is Keeping the Porch Light On
Hondo’s caseload means a full-time return isn’t realistic, but Shemar Moore says any show he has called home can count on him showing up whenever it asks. And Malcolm has no shortage of reasons to pack a bag. There’s a son he’s still getting to know, a daughter, Lily Winters, getting serious again with Cane Ashby, the very man whose bone marrow saved his life, and an old flame cozying up to Nate. If Shemar Moore ever gets that phone call, Malcolm is walking into a family reunion loaded with surprises.
