Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Dominic Marino’s Middle Name Means Black as a John Black Question Erupts
Days of Our Lives spoilers on Dominic Marino’s middle name: his birth certificate says Nero, the Italian word for black, and fans see John.
DAYS OF OUR LIVES SPOILERS: DOMINIC MARINO’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE SAYS NERO, AND NERO MEANS BLACK
TL;DR: Dominic Marino’s birth certificate gives his full name as Dominic Nero Marino DiMera, and nero is Italian for black. Fans of Days of Our Lives want to know if John Black is hiding in that name. We ran it through Stefano’s own chessboard instead.
The Middle Name Marlena Read Out Loud
Forget the louder headlines in this week’s Days of Our Lives spoilers. The word fans cannot stop talking about is the middle name on Dominic Marino‘s birth certificate. On September 25, Steve Johnson handed Marlena Evans his phone, and she read the document aloud: “Full name: Dominic Nero Marino DiMera.” It lists Stefano DiMera as the father and Marlena as the mother.
Nero is the Italian word for black. Within days, fans were asking whether that middle name is a clue that John Black has something to do with Dominic, and whether the paper is hiding his real father. It is a fair question. The show has already handed us the tools to answer it.

Stefano Wrote John Into His Chess Game Years Ago
Here is the piece nobody else has lined up. Stefano left a chess set in his will, and that will named John as his pawn and Marlena as his Queen of the Night. On an Italian chessboard, the two sides are called Bianco and Nero. White and Black. A boy carrying the DiMera surname with Nero in the middle reads like a chess player’s joke with John’s name tucked inside it.

The rest of the name plays the same game. Marlena noticed on September 18 that Marino means of the sea, and so does DiMera. Dominic comes from the Latin for belonging to the Lord. String it together and you get a riddle only Stefano could love, a name that says the same family twice and slips a rival’s surname in between.
Is John Black Dominic’s Real Father on Days of Our Lives?
Nothing on screen says so. The certificate names Stefano, and no episode has tied John to Dominic in any way. The calendar is a problem for fans who want it, too. From the 1987 plane crash that let Salem believe Marlena was dead until her return in 1991, John was in Salem believing he was Roman Brady, while Stefano held Marlena on his island.
That is why the chess reading makes more sense to us. Stefano spent decades treating John as a piece he could push around the board, and he put it in writing in his will. If Stefano chose that middle name, and my gut says he did, it let him needle John every time anyone spoke it. It tells us who was playing the game. It does not tell us who the father is.
Three Ways to Read Dominic Marino’s Middle Name
The first is a chess move, and it is our pick: the black side of the board, with John Black’s surname built in. The second is the one fans love, a clue that John is the real father, which runs straight into the certificate and the calendar. The third is the darkest. Salem has learned the hard way that Stefano can fake a piece of paper, so the whole document could be a forgery, with the middle name as the bait that sends Marlena digging.
It is the same month fans decided Dominic Marino might be a third child from Stefano’s Gemini twins experiment, and there is plenty of Salem speculation pulling in every direction. Not one version of it has been confirmed. Dominic still has not appeared on screen, and no actor has been cast.

Where the Name Could Surface Next
On Thursday, Steve takes a new idea to Belle Black, and nobody has said what it is. If I know these writers, a talk between Steve and John’s own daughter is the perfect place for that middle name to come up. Marlena is also headed for a showdown with Rita Lesley, Stefano’s longtime secretary, to demand the truth about Dominic. No air date has been set for that one.
My gut tells me the name Nero was picked by someone who knew exactly who would read it. Whether Dominic Marino turns out to be Stefano’s son or the face of a very expensive lie, that middle name was written for John and Marlena.

Nero Is Stefano’s Chess Move, Not a Paternity Clue
We do not think John fathered anyone here. We think the name points at John because Stefano wanted it to. A man who wrote John into his will as a pawn would never pass up the chance to stamp the black side of the board onto a DiMera.
