THIS YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS RECAP HAS VICTOR AND ADAM HUDDLING
TL;DR: This Young and the Restless Recap catches Victor Newman and Adam Newman huddling at the ranch, Matt Clark begging Sharon Newman for help until Nick Newman walked in, and Phyllis Summers trading barbs with Adam over her growing empire.

Victor and Adam Hold Court
Victor Newman prefers his intelligence delivered face to face, so Adam Newman turned up at the ranch with a full briefing and transformed the place into a war room with nicer upholstery. First on the agenda was Nick’s reaction to the dealer resurfacing. According to Nick, the stash went down a drain and never touched his own hands, and Adam believed it. Victor, who treats every family crisis like a chain of command, ruled that Nick’s one and only assignment was staying sober. Unfortunately, Nick had already steered his thoughts back to Matt, a subject Victor considered closed, locked, and tossed in the river.
Item two was Phyllis Summers, who had vowed to leave Newman in the dust within twelve months. Victor answered with a groan theatrical enough to earn a curtain call. He conceded she had come close to pulling off her stunts before, then predicted she would take her best swing and lose. Adam, long the black sheep of the clan, now ran its unofficial spy network, and his father took each report with the gravity of a man reading a classified memo.
Is Victor right to keep Nick’s focus on staying sober, or will Matt drag the whole family into his orbit anyway? Email your theories to amber@soapoperamagazine.com. We want every wild guess.

Matt Begs Sharon for Help
Matt Clark beat the ranch security by hiding in the trunk of Sharon Newman’s car, so somewhere a guard started polishing a résumé. Sharon demanded an explanation. Matt claimed he wanted assistance, then folded over, gripping his skull. She stepped back and reminded him that he had agreed to stay away, and that frightening her was not part of the deal. He swore he was not performing. She ordered him out, he could not make himself leave, and he pleaded for relief from the agony.
The scene was hard to watch. Matt said the darkness had returned and was devouring him, and Sharon fetched him water because kindness is her reflex. He called her the one person he could rely on, a therapist who had once spared him some compassion. Then he wept and confessed that he did not know who he was anymore. He had hoped to persuade Patty Williams to surrender to the police, but she wrecked their car instead, and when he regained consciousness, his mind was crackling with every ugly urge he used to own. Something inside him burned and jeered, he said, and he was terrified, not threatening.
Sharon glanced toward the fireplace poker, and Matt invited her to seize it and rattle the brutality out of him again. She asked whether he had been checked out after Sienna Bacall struck him. He said the X-ray looked fine. Sharon replied that an injury can reshape a temperament but never erase a conscience, and a conscience cannot lie. Matt labeled himself a monster with a few good qualities. She said he required a specialist. He said he required her understanding, the quality that always pulled him toward her. When she mentioned calling security, he shrugged that the guards might arrive on time, or might not.
Sharon refused to flinch. She told him he held authority over whatever raged in his head and that he could choose differently. Matt said he loathed himself and every awful thing he had done but could not quit. She noted that the Matt of old would have lunged by now, and his restraint meant hope remained. Then somebody knocked. Matt begged her to open the door, and Nick Newman entered, spotted him, and demanded to know why he was standing there. Sharon said Matt sought change. Nick said Matt never changes and that he intended to end it on the spot. Matt told him to do whatever he must, since that could be his sole escape hatch.
Sharon and Nick squabbled over the plan. Nick insisted Matt had burned through every chance, and Sharon insisted on handling it her way by getting him treatment at a clinic. Matt shrieked that his better half and his worse half were throwing a party inside his skull, clutched his temple, and collapsed into a seat. He wished he were dead. Sharon promised him care, and Nick snorted. Sharon had nothing on her calendar and still managed to book three emergencies before dinner.

Adam Vouches for Nick
Earlier at Society, Adam had arrived to steer his brother away from Phyllis with fresh news. Detective Burrows had found the dealer, who was breathing and who told officers that Nick had pounded him severely. The detective now wanted a formal chat. Nick said he had confiscated the man’s supply and sent it down the plumbing. Adam wished to believe him, and chose to.
Nick explained that clearing even a little poison off the street felt worthwhile, however small. He thanked Adam for carrying so much weight for the family lately, and Adam promised never to doubt him. They switched to Matt and where he might be hiding. Nick asked his brother to tell the detective he would cooperate, but only after he stopped by Sharon’s. Detective Burrows has a talent for issuing invitations without an RSVP card, and Nick’s was apparently already in the mail.

Phyllis Fields Two Interrogations
Earlier, before Adam stepped in, Phyllis had cornered Nick at a table and asked whether he was ducking her. She told him he looked healthy and offered backup if he wanted it. He asked about Matt, and she waved the idea away. Nick explained that Matt’s wrecked vehicle had been discovered beyond city limits with no driver in sight, and police suspected Patty rode along. He saw a scheme hatched by two schemers, and he and Phyllis argued about handing Matt any mercy. Nick could not fathom why she worked so hard to paint Matt as a victim, and he declined to move into the alternate reality where she lived.
After Nick exited with his brother, Adam circled back for round two. He wanted to know how Phyllis financed all her new buildings, and she dodged. He decided to wait patiently for her arrest and told her the Newmans had zero interest in her or Arabesque. Phyllis crowed that Lauren Fenmore and Daniel Romalotti stood behind her, and Adam mournfully forecast that her son would be unemployed again soon. She vowed to plant herself across the street and bring the Newmans down. He reminded her that her track record is failure and that his father handed her the club as a pity gift.
Phyllis insisted her company would do whatever Newman does, only bigger and flashier. Adam called that vague, so she promised to eclipse Newman across the board inside twelve months. He said she was spread too thin, she said that argument belongs to the defeated, and they traded a few more digs before he thanked her for the entertainment. Her master plan carried the detail of a fortune cookie. After he left, Phyllis rang Matt and left a voicemail begging him to say he was safe.
