Christian Miller’s childhood in Buffalo, New York was plagued by hardship. With his father absent from his life and his mother Cora struggling to support the family, the painful choice was made to surrender seven-year-old Christian to the care of an orphanage. Though he clung to the belief his mother would return for him, as the years wore on, Christian slowly lost hope he would ever have a real home again. By his mid-teens, defiant and weary of relying on others, Christian set out on his own, eager to take control of his future. Reinventing himself as Victor Newman, he shed the painful traces of his past, determined to forge a new identity.
When Victor arrived in Genoa City with his new wife Julia, few traces of his difficult early years were visible. Driven by ambition, yet still seeking family bonds, Victor set his sights on rising to the top of the business world while attempting to navigate the complexities of married life. Though initially installed as a manager at Chancellor Industries by Katherine Chancellor herself, Victor’s aspirations were far loftier. Establishing his own conglomerate, Newman Enterprises, through equal parts charm, cunning business sense and unrelenting drive, Victor rapidly transformed himself into one of the most commanding forces in finance and industry.
In February 1980, renowned actor Eric Braeden brought Victor Newman to vivid life on screen. Though originally penned as a short-term character, the profound layers and intriguing contrasts of Victor’s personality captured viewer interest immediately. His capacity to embrace both heroism and morally questionable actions established him as an utterly fascinating antihero.
