Brook Lynn Weighs Custody and Conscience

Brook Lynn Quartermaine slipped into the kitchen hoping for solitude, having counted on Tracy Quartermaine being across town at Gio and Trina’s gig. No such luck. Tracy was savoring her tea and greeted the intruder with a sneeze, which by Quartermaine standards counts as a warm embrace.

The sadness came pouring out. Brook Lynn was grieving the loss of Chase, and Tracy, never one to leave a wound unmanaged, issued a forecast: full custody was coming, and Chase would shrink into a distant memory. Brook Lynn begged for a minute to simply be sad, since everything still felt raw. Tracy backed off and apologized, admitted she hated watching her granddaughter hurt, hated even more how “that man” had treated her, and said she loved her. For Tracy, that is practically a sonnet.

Later, Ned Quartermaine, dispatched by Tracy, found his daughter in the kitchen and winced at how heartbroken she looked. She confessed that Tracy was urging her to haul Chase into court over full custody, and that she doubted she could put a child through the same ordeal. Ned admitted he had only wanted peace back then, since her mother wanted her far from the Quartermaines. Her mother had solid reasons, he said, yet he long wished he had put up a fight. His advice was to let the child’s father stay in the picture.

Jason Gets Handed the Keys

In the Quartermaine dining room, Jason Morgan arrived with good news for Ned: the Alberta trouble at ELQ was handled, the plant would be humming by third quarter, and the bank could stop breathing down his neck. Ned was relieved, then promptly irritated that nobody had told him until the problem was solved. Jason reports to him, Ned reminded everyone, and from now on he wanted the lines of authority spelled out.

The org chart did not survive the afternoon. Tracy wandered in, spotted a half-eaten hamburger, and was appalled. Ned pointed at Jason with the confidence of a man framing his own lunch. Tracy, who knows her son’s appetite, was having none of it, scolded him, and sent him off to look in on Brook Lynn.

That left Tracy alone with Jason, and she wasted no time. She thanked him for his willingness to keep Willow Tait from skipping town with the children, and Jason noted that he also holds Michael Corinthos’s proxy. Tracy then asked him to help with the spring line and ease the load on Ned. Jason pointed out that Ned had only moments earlier claimed the top spot. Tracy talked him into it anyway, because the pecking order in this family is whatever Tracy says it is.

Meanwhile, Lucy Coe was busy at Cafe Cherie playing matchmaker for Serena Baldwin and Michael, mostly because she aims to reclaim Deception for the family. Serena begged her to dial it down. Then Michael phoned to cancel, explaining he was on a plane headed abroad, and Lucy accused him of disrespecting the company. When Serena revealed that Jason was filling in, Lucy sneered that his emotional range is roughly the width of a hair. Serena shrugged and said he had been tender while checking her for ticks and helping move a falcon nest.

Lucy’s mind went straight to a takeover. If Jason had bonded with Serena, maybe he would sign his proxy over to Lucy, and all she needed was a manufactured emergency to pull it off. Serena doubted it would fly but agreed to help anyway. Nothing says family loyalty like manufacturing a corporate emergency over lunch.

Michael Gets Candid Mid-Flight

Somewhere above the clouds, Michael told Jordan Ashford that Jason was covering for him at work. Jordan said she did not know how to thank him for taking her to the German doctor he trusts, and he brushed it off as the sensible thing to do. He plans to wait there for the week or so the treatment will take, which he described as intense and painful. Jordan insisted she was stronger than she appears, and Michael smiled and asked her to hold on to that.

The conversation drifted to her strained relationship with Portia Robinson and Curtis Ashford, which Michael could not understand. He then shared some reflections on his marriage to Willow. Yes, Willow strayed with Drew Cain, but he believes the marriage was doomed anyway because her heart was still tangled up with Chase. Jordan called that a cop-out, even as she admitted it sounded unsympathetic. Michael’s self-examination managed to land on everyone else’s fault, which is a neat trick.

Britt Stands Guard Over Willow

At the hospital, Tristan Roberts caught Britt Westbourne lurking around his patient, Jenz Sidwell, and Britt explained that Lulu Spencer had no business being in that room. Joe Fitzpatrick wandered in with a what-if involving a patient on the same medications as Sidwell, and everyone agreed that anybody could have been loopy on that cocktail. Isaiah Gannon and Portia then flagged Britt down to invite her to the hospital crowd’s Brown Dog gathering on Friday. This was news to Britt, who had not checked her email, and Tristan mocked her for it. Britt has weathered plenty in Port Charles, but an unread inbox finally got her.

Near the elevators, Joe cornered Lucas Jones for help figuring out what happened to Jack Brennan. Lucas had no information and no appetite for assembling charges against Willow. Britt stormed in, swearing to take on any doubter, and asked Tristan to vouch for her. He could not, since Sidwell may well have been honest during that interview. Once the others left, Tristan told Britt to keep him out of her crusades.

Elsewhere, Joe told Lucas that Brennan might still be somewhere in town and that Willow may have had a hand in it. Lucas advised caution where the WSB is concerned.

Isaiah Brings Dinner and Peace

At Portia’s house, Marshall Ashford was cradling the baby and chatting him up when the little guy sprayed him with a post-meal souvenir. Portia came home and thanked Marshall for babysitting his grandson, then admitted how hard it is to be away from Des. Marshall wore the expression of a man whose cardigan had been christened.

Isaiah turned up with takeout, and Marshall looked less than delighted. Isaiah played with the baby until Portia carried him off to bed, then asked Marshall to stay and eat, since he had bought enough for everyone. It was awkward, he conceded, but he wanted to move past it. Marshall wanted that too, so long as Isaiah never tried to take Curtis’s place as the baby’s father. Isaiah swore he had no such plan, and the men embraced.

Marshall confessed he had not always been there for his own son, and he was grateful to those who stepped up for Curtis. When Portia returned, she watched the pair bond over music, a smile tugging at her lips. Earlier at the hospital, she and Isaiah had connected over the baby, and she had invited him to come by, so the evening ended up going exactly as planned.
