BEYOND THE GATES RECAP HAS SMITTY’S ARREST GOING VIRAL

Smitty’s Arrest Video Goes Viral

Martin Richardson held Smitty close in the brownstone and proposed crawling back into bed until the felony charge lost interest, a plan with all the legal sophistication of a pillow fort. Smitty, unswayed even by his husband’s finest charms, said no amount of cuddling could erase the legal trouble looming over him. The sulking continued until Shonda showed up, wearing a grim headshake and carrying a phone full of bad news: footage of the arrest had escaped into the wild.

Martin’s first instinct was to haul the police into court, a strategy with all the subtlety of a marching band. Shonda steered him back to earth, since rescuing the campaign had to come first. Smitty argued that nothing in the clip looked scandalous, so Shonda reminded the journalist how a hostile audience reads these things.

Over on the Dupree grounds, Vernon Dupree was grumbling to Anita Dupree about Jacob Hawthorne’s refusal to rank family over the law. Anita answered with a pep talk that promoted her husband to the finest political strategist in recent memory and declared him fully capable of fixing this. Nothing deflates a pep talk quite like a viral video, and the couple discovered the footage partway through this one.

The Duprees Close Ranks

Later, Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne joined Nicole Dupree Richardson, Anita, and Smitty at the estate while Martin and Shonda worked the political angle in the study. The pair stormed out, and Martin demanded to know whether Jacob was insane or incompetent, a question that conveniently left no room for the possibility that he was simply doing his job.

Smitty, the only person in the house facing criminal charges, became the one to lower the temperature. Apologies circulated, and everybody pledged to defend him. Vernon and Shonda insisted on a united public front to save the campaign. Smitty wasn’t buying it. Any reporter worth her press badge would shred the lot of them, he said, a point he would know firsthand, and he proposed hiding from the spotlight altogether.

Once the room cleared, Anita and Nicole stayed behind, and Smitty confessed his fear of dragging his husband’s career under with him. They pointed him toward the few things within his power, which felt like precious little. The family, they swore, would carry him through it.

Jacob and Naomi Feel the Heat

Over at Orphey Gene’s, Jacob told Naomi that taking Smitty into custody had hurt nearly as much as laying Derek Baldwin to rest. Then June arrived with her phone and proof that the footage was spreading fast. Naomi suspected a leak inside the department. June, who did not believe in pulling punches, demanded to know how Jacob could lock up a man he knew “doggone well” had killed no one.

Apologies flew in every direction, every person present insisted they adored Smitty, and Naomi vowed to move heaven and earth to help him beat the charge. Then Vernon’s text arrived, and she was gone.

Elsewhere, Marcel Malone gleefully told Jacob he must be shopping for a divorce lawyer after hauling in yet another relative of his bougie in-laws. Marcel was certain the honeymoon with those in-laws had run its course. If the Duprees send holiday cards, Jacob’s is heading straight back as undeliverable.

Samantha Faces the Debs

Nicole was on the phone at Caffeine Fix with Dani Dupree, who reported that Tyrell Richardson was comforting Smitty while Samantha Richardson was falling apart. When the call ended, Samantha slid into the seat beside her and lamented that the universe seemed to hold a grudge against her family, with one crisis chasing the next. Nicole insisted the legal mix-up would get sorted out. Samantha admitted she was scared, and Nicole told her that fear was perfectly valid.

A pack of debs at a nearby table snickered and stared. Samantha checked her phone and saw that the arrest footage was online. The debs wandered over to pose cruel questions about her parents, and Nicole scolded them for their shameful behavior and sent them packing. Whatever finishing school taught them, it skipped the chapter on basic decency.

Later, June met Samantha at the same cafe. Samantha said other kids had been making jokes at her father’s expense and that she feared prison could be in his future. Chelsea Hamilton joined them with reassurance that everything would be fine, but Samantha sobbed that men like her father end up behind bars all the time.

Bill’s Birthday Takes a Turn

At Dani’s house, Chelsea dropped by to talk it all through, and Dani’s heart went out to Jacob, caught between two sides. They remembered it was Bill Hamilton’s birthday, which was the reason for Chelsea’s visit. Dani insisted that planning his parties was no longer her department, but Chelsea badgered her, since she knew exactly what made her dad smile. They toasted Dani’s compassion and the idea of celebrating the end of Hayley Lawson’s spell, though Dani said it wasn’t fair to Andre Richardson to keep lingering in her former husband’s orbit. Chelsea understood. Then they spotted the video and gasped.

Behind his desk, Bill received a text confirming that the money had gone out and phoned Hayley to announce her settlement had been sent. He informed her he now considered her a fortune hunter and ended the call. Then he watched the Smitty footage himself and tried a call that wouldn’t connect.

Chelsea bustled in with a tablet, a dating profile she had built for her father, and a roster of prospective dates she had already vetted. Chelsea answered a family crisis by launching her dad on the market, which is one way to channel nervous energy. Bill assured her that his marrying days were over and his dating days might be too. They agreed the family needed to band together for damage control, and Bill predicted Kat Richardson would crack the whole thing before the police. A message regarding Martin sent him hurrying out.

Hayley Gets Warned Off

Meanwhile, Leslie Thomas swanned into Hayley’s hotel room and helped herself to the food before delivering the news about Smitty’s video with a victory crow. Hayley doubted the footage was genuine. Leslie was certain the Dupree patriarch and matriarch were fuming, and she sampled Hayley’s perfumes while gloating. Hayley found her a little hateful but couldn’t deny that rubbing it in the face of “Sherlock” Kat would be nice. Then paranoia set in, Hayley paced, declined an invitation to dinner, and showed Leslie the door.

Leslie later took a swipe at Jacob at the station and sat down with Marcel, asking about his connection to Hayley. He swore his only interest in Hayley was her crimes and that he had eyes for only one woman. Leslie let him know that his eyes were not the feature she cared about.

Over at Orphey Gene’s, Shonda arrived with the Duprees, and Vernon admitted they were in for a serious fight. Dani fumed when Hayley strolled in, itching to wring her neck, though Vernon insisted on handling it himself. He stalked over and suggested Hayley leave if she had any sense. She did. The moment she was gone, Bill walked in and smiled at Dani.

Smitty’s arrest reached every screen in town, Martin and Shonda scrambled to guard the campaign, and the Duprees closed ranks around the man at the center. Jacob and Naomi took the heat, Samantha took the cruelty, and Bill and Dani wandered into a birthday neither had planned. Meanwhile, Leslie feasted, Hayley fretted, and Vernon made it very clear who handles problems in Fairmont Crest.
