EJ DiMera Is Asking About the Wrong Secret

Days of Our Lives spoilers put Cat Greene and Rafe Hernandez at the center of the one secret EJ DiMera still has not found. Every preview for Thursday, September 24 had EJ questioning where Cat’s loyalty lies. Every one of them pinned his doubts on her past with the ISA. Not one mentioned Rafe.

That is the delicious joke of it. Cat told EJ on August 31 that she had been ISA, just a desk jockey, because she did not want secrets between them. He kissed her. Then he looked unnerved when they hugged.

On September 11, Rita Lesley told him she had confirmed that Cat worked for the ISA in an administrative role and resigned years ago. EJ ordered her to dig deeper. A week later he confessed to Rita that he did not know who to trust any more, pointing to the doubts Chad DiMera has about Cat’s story.

The Letter That Went From Cat to Rafe

Here is what EJ has not been shown. On July 27, Cat dropped Gwen Rizczech‘s confession letter off with Rafe and admitted she had stolen it. She had hacked into the server of Gwen’s attorney to get it. The letter laid out that Gwen and EJ kidnapped Dimitri on American soil, and that Gwen had been EJ’s silent partner with Versavix.

Two days later Rafe, who is with the FBI, said a case had been opened. On September 11 it came out that he had given the hospital board a copy of that letter to tank Gwen’s purchase of the hospital. Rita told EJ the board rejected Gwen because it learned she was his silent partner, and EJ grumbled that it destroyed his leverage over her. Nothing on screen has shown him learning where the letter came from.

Is Cat Greene Working With Rafe Hernandez Against EJ DiMera?

It certainly looks that way for Cat Greene. On September 11 she went to Rafe’s house, worried that her plan had backfired and that EJ was avoiding her. Rafe promised they would figure out their next move together once EJ was back in town. When Gwen banged on the front door, Cat slipped out the back.

One caution before anyone calls this a running operation. That September 11 visit is the last time the two of them shared a scene. Rafe has not turned up on screen since, so what Cat has told him about EJ’s suspicions, if anything, is still a blank. Our preview of EJ grilling Cat over her loyalty set up Thursday. My gut says Rafe’s silence is the writers keeping the letter in their back pocket.

Leo Stark Already Said It Out Loud

EJ may not know, but Leo Stark thinks he does. In the Square on September 11, Leo accused Cat of stealing Gwen’s letter and giving it to Rafe. Cat scoffed, said she was not ISA and said she barely knew Rafe. Leo told her he did not believe her, but that he did not want to blow her cover either.

He pressed her again on September 17, and she admitted she had been ISA while insisting she was not anymore. Notice what Leo is not worried about. He does not think Cat is loyal to EJ at all. On September 8, Gabi Hernandez said Cat should stay at her job with EJ, and Leo agreed she was very well placed to help bring him down.

What Happens When EJ Connects the Dots

Reading between the lines, EJ has the right instinct and the wrong evidence. Every scrap he has gathered is about the ISA, which Cat has already admitted. The thing that actually hurt him, the letter, runs straight from Cat Greene to Rafe, and nobody has put that in front of him.

If I know these writers, the person most likely to hand it over is Leo, who has already said it once. Rita is the other candidate, since she is the one digging on Cat for EJ and has secrets of her own. Either way, once EJ learns the woman he kissed in August helped an FBI agent who wants him held accountable, this stops being a loyalty question. It becomes war.
