Let’s talk about what Kate is really up against here. Roman and Marlena were married in February 1983. They had twins together, Sami and Eric Brady, who are now adults with their own messy Salem lives. Roman was literally presumed dead protecting Marlena from Stefano DiMera. When Roman returned from the dead years later, he discovered that John Black had been living his life, sleeping in his bed, and raising his children while everyone thought John WAS Roman. The whole situation was absolutely unhinged, but the point is that Roman never stopped loving Marlena through any of it.

Kate married Roman knowing all of this. She married him knowing that when they were trapped on Melaswen Island together, Roman and Marlena made love while their spouses John and Kate were falling for each other back in Salem. She married him knowing that Marlena got pregnant with Roman’s baby after that island fling.

Kate has been competing with Marlena’s ghost in Roman’s heart for over twenty years. Except now Marlena isn’t a ghost. She’s a widow. A very available, very vulnerable widow that Roman keeps running to comfort.

John Black’s Death Changes Everything For This Love Triangle

The holidays were particularly hard on Marlena because of John’s death. Roman has been there for her through every difficult moment, and Kate has noticed. Sources say Kate got upset with Roman earlier this year when he showed empathy towards Marlena, and clearly the situation hasn’t improved.
