B&B Is Writing Sheila Carter Like She’s Brand New. Girl, Please.

SHEILA CARTER WOULD HAVE ALREADY CAUGHT ON AND WE ALL KNOW IT

TL;DR: Deacon Sharpe is distracted, nervous, sipping drinks, and sneaking off to kiss Taylor Hayes in her office — and Sheila Carter, the most calculating villain in soap opera history, is just sitting there gushing about how wonderful Taylor has been for both of them on The Bold and the Beautiful.

This Is Not the Sheila Carter We Know

Let us talk about what is happening on The Bold and the Beautiful right now because something is not adding up.

Deacon Sharpe is so distracted by his feelings for Taylor Hayes that he cannot hear a single word his wife is saying. Sheila asked him what was on his mind — or WHO — and instead of lying smoothly like a man who wants to live, Deacon admitted he has been thinking about Taylor. He nervously sipped a drink. He flashed back to telling Taylor he loves her. And then Sheila responded by gushing about what a “huge difference” Taylor has made and how “wonderful and incredible” she has been for both of them.

Excuse us?

This is Sheila Carter. The woman who shot Steffy Forrester and John Finnegan and left them for dead in an alley. The woman who faked her own death so many times that people stopped counting. The woman who held the entire Forrester family hostage, poisoned people, manipulated her way into and out of prison, and has been running circles around the so-called smartest people in Los Angeles for DECADES.

And we are supposed to believe she cannot tell that her husband is in love with another woman?

Sheila Carter Notices Everything

This is a woman who has built her entire existence on reading people. She knows when someone is lying. She knows when someone is hiding something. She can smell fear and deception from across the room because that is how she has survived this long.

Deacon is not even being subtle. He is distracted when she talks. He is nervous. He is drinking. He admitted — out loud, to her face — that he has been thinking about Taylor. And Sheila’s response was to COMPLIMENT Taylor?

The Sheila Carter we know would have already installed a tracking app on Deacon’s phone. She would have followed him to Taylor’s office. She would have been standing outside the door listening to every word of that passionate speech about how his desire for Taylor is “a fire consuming him” and how he has “moved on emotionally” from his wife.

The Sheila Carter we know would already have a plan.

Steffy Knows What Sheila Is Capable Of

Meanwhile, Steffy Forrester is terrified. She gave her mother an ultimatum — end things with Deacon or lose her family — because she knows exactly what will happen if Sheila finds out. She told Finn they must not incite Sheila. She went to Ridge and told him the situation is “really bad” because Deacon is not just married, he is married to Sheila Carter.

Ridge’s eyes popped out of his head when he heard the news. Because Ridge knows. Steffy knows. Finn knows. Everyone in Los Angeles knows what Sheila is capable of when she feels betrayed.

Everyone except, apparently, the writers.

B&B Is Stalling and We See It

Here is what is really happening. The show is stalling. They want to drag out the Taylor and Deacon affair for maximum drama, which means they need Sheila to stay oblivious for as long as possible. But instead of writing Sheila as suspicious and biding her time — which would be perfectly in character — they are writing her as completely clueless.

It is lazy. It is insulting to a legacy character. And it does not track with anything we know about Sheila Carter.

Sheila should be watching. Sheila should be plotting. Sheila should be ten steps ahead of everyone while pretending to be the supportive wife. THAT is the Sheila we know. THAT is the Sheila who terrifies people. Not this oblivious version who hears her husband admit he is thinking about another woman and responds with praise for that woman.

When Sheila Finds Out — and She Will Find Out — It Better Be Worth It

The only way this storyline redeems itself is if we find out Sheila has known all along and has been playing the long game. If she has been collecting evidence, building a case, and waiting for the perfect moment to destroy everyone involved, then fine. We will forgive this strange detour into oblivious Sheila territory.

But if the show expects us to believe that Sheila Carter — SHEILA CARTER — genuinely did not notice her husband falling in love with another woman right in front of her face, then The Bold and the Beautiful has forgotten who this character is.

And that would be a shame. Because when Sheila Carter is written correctly, she is one of the most dangerous and compelling villains in daytime television. She deserves better than this.
