The Young and the Restless
Young and the Restless: Riza Thomson Returns — Is This the Beginning of the End for Adam Newman and Chelsea Lawson?
Riza Thomson returns to Y&R on March 23 and Adam Newman’s dark Las Vegas past is back in play. Can Chelsea Lawson hold on, or is this romance doomed? Spoilers inside.
TL;DR: Riza Thomson returns to The Young and the Restless on March 23, forcing Adam Newman back into his dangerous “Spider” persona to extract Matt Clark from Las Vegas, while Chelsea Lawson waits at home terrified the underworld will reclaim the man she loves.
Spider Is Awake
He worked so hard to bury that name. Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) built something real with Chelsea Lawson — a home at the Newman Ranch, a stable life for their son Connor Newman, a future that did not involve card tables, cold reads, or the Las Vegas underworld. And now it is all on the line.
Riza Thomson (Tina Casciani) is coming back to The Young and the Restless on March 23. She is not coming back to say hello.
ADAM NEWMAN’S LAS VEGAS PAST IS BACK AND CHELSEA LAWSON SHOULD BE TERRIFIED
For those who need a refresher — Riza is the high-stakes poker queen who managed Adam during his 2019 amnesiac phase, when he had no memory of Genoa City, no memory of Chelsea, no memory of who he was supposed to be. He went by Spider. He was ruthless, calculating, and completely untethered from the moral framework he had spent years constructing. Riza knew that version of him better than anyone alive.
Now she is reportedly harboring the resurrected sociopath Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) in Las Vegas. The only person who can get close enough to extract him is the one man Riza already knows exactly how to read — Adam.
Why This Mission Was Always Going to Cost Someone Something
Nick Newman needs Matt Clark stopped most urgently. Matt targeted Nick with calculated brutality — engineering a vehicular collision that shattered his leg, then planting fentanyl in his jacket to manufacture a covert addiction. Nick has been quietly unraveling ever since, hiding the dependency from his family, from his son Noah Newman, from everyone who loves him.
The plan was for the brothers to go to Las Vegas together, use Adam‘s history with Riza to flush Matt out, and end this nightmare. Simple enough on paper. Except nothing here is simple. Adam has already discovered the truth about Nick‘s fentanyl addiction — and instead of sounding the alarm, he made the morally loaded decision to cover it up. Two compromised brothers walking into a desert underworld. What could possibly go wrong.
Chelsea knows exactly what could go wrong. She has watched Adam claw his way back from the darkest corners of who he used to be. She understands that Las Vegas is not just a location to him — it is a psychological trigger. And Riza Thomson is not just a contact. She is a direct line back to Spider.
Can Adam Hold the Line?
Here is the real problem. To earn Riza‘s trust, Adam cannot walk into her world as the reformed man living quietly at the Newman Ranch. He has to become Spider again — or at least a convincing enough version of him. And that psychological door does not open and close cleanly. It never has.
He has reinvented himself more times than this show can count. Villain, grieving father, corporate schemer, the man quietly trying to do right by Chelsea and Connor. The writers keep circling the same fundamental question: how permanent is the change? How deep does it actually go?
Chelsea is sitting at the Newman Ranch asking herself that exact question right now.
What’s Next for the Newman Brothers and Chelsea Lawson?
Could this mean the Las Vegas mission tears open something in Adam that Chelsea simply cannot fix? Don’t be surprised if Riza‘s return ignites a confrontation that has nothing to do with Matt Clark and everything to do with who Adam was before he came home. Given his history of self-destruction at his most stable moments, this storyline has all the makings of a slow-burn demolition of everything Chelsea has fought so hard to rebuild.
What happens to Adam Newman in Las Vegas will not stay in Las Vegas — and Chelsea Lawson is about to find that out the hard way.

@soapoperamag "I really like Jason Thompson as Billy Abbott on Y&R but I LOOOVVVVVED him as Patrick on GH! Should he revisit his Port Charles soap roots, even for a pop-in? It would be so great to see him on the show again. To be honest, it feels weird to have Emma back without her mom or her dad. Bring the whole family and lets have a reunion! #YoungandtheRestless #GeneralHospital" ♬ original sound – Soap Opera Magazine
