Talk about a risky play. At Society, Matt Clark barges in on Cane Ashby and Lily Winters, buying drinks and angling for friendship, until Lily reads the room and leaves the two men to it. What follows is either the boldest or the dumbest move Matt has made yet, and possibly both.

Cane makes it clear he could not care less about whatever this is, so Matt Clark lays his cards on the table. He confesses he is basically Victor’s “secret agent,” planted to get close to Cane and dig up intel, and he admits he only took the gig for the money. He even lets slip that he knew the Newmans before he ever rolled into town, though he clams up before saying more.

Here is where Matt Clark torches the hand that feeds him. He tells Cane that if he wants him gone, all he has to do is reveal what Victor is desperate to know, offering to trade his boss’s agenda for a little peace. Cane, unimpressed, tells him to march right back to the Newmans, announce he is not coming after them, and hightail it to Kansas, because Victor will never actually deliver what he promised.

Selling out the most powerful man in Genoa City is a spectacular way to end up flattened, but Matt insists he is clawing up from rock bottom and refuses to build a new life on Newman handouts. Then comes the kicker: Phyllis Summershas been watching the whole exchange through the window. She strolls over to note how strange it is to see these two together, and Cane pointedly asks if there is something he should know about her so-called friend.

Nikki’s Loved Ones Keep Vigil at the Ranch

Meanwhile, the Newman clan gathers at the ranch after a nurse chased them out of the waiting room, clinging to hope that Nikki Newman pulled through, even knowing it could be weeks before they truly know. They trade stories about what a fighter she is, recalling every battle she has survived, right down to that Landers woman.

Victoria insists her mother’s real strength is knowing when to accept help, and she gently pushes her father to find his way back to his wife. The kids are united on one point: Victor and Nikki are the beating heart of this family. Victor, however, refuses to entertain any talk of reunion until she is fully healed.

Then talk turns to Matt, with Nick still uneasy about how slippery the man is. Victor confesses he does not know if Matt Clark has changed, but he is using him to figure out exactly what Cane is up to. If Matt fails to deliver anything useful, that silence will tell Victor his redemption act is a lie.

Victoria and Claire Sit at Nikki’s Bedside

Over at the hospital, Victoria Newman and Claire Newman slip into Nikki’s room for a visit, and Nikki reassures her daughter that this is nothing like Cole. The tenderness pours out as Victoria watches her mother sleep, confessing she has always worshipped Nikki, always trusted she would be accepted, and that safety gave her room to stumble and grow.

When Nikki wakes, she is overjoyed to find her girls at her side, and they share the good news that the surgery went well. She reaches up, feels her daughter’s face, and calls her an angel, a moment made even sweeter by everything they nearly lost.

From the hallway, Victor Newman watches the three of them and quietly remembers the vows he once made to never let Nikki down. Whether he can honor them this time is the question hanging over the entire family.

Stephanie Dangles a Second Chance in Front of Nate

At the GCAC, Nate Hastings wraps a call with Devon before Stephanie Simmons joins him to bask in the win of Nikki’s successful surgery. He offers to buy the hero a drink, and she waves it off, insisting she only did her job while the celebrated specialist worked his magic.

Their easy banter turns pointed when Stephanie reveals she spoke to a colleague about Nate’s case, hinting that new techniques could put a scalpel back in his hand and make him a surgeon once more. Nate holds firm that his life is good and full exactly as it is, but Stephanie is not letting go, reminding him that once a doctor, always a doctor.

As the pull of his old calling starts to show on his face, Lily Winters breezes in, and Nate teases that Stephanie is trying to poach him. Lily fires back that Stephanie had better keep her hands off, unless, of course, Nate finds himself intrigued.
