Eric Braeden has played Victor Newman since February 8, 1980, and no other actor has ever held the adult role. He was born Hans Jorg Gudegast in Bredenbek, Germany, on April 3, 1941, and took the stage name Braeden from his hometown before arriving in Genoa City. At 85, he remains a full time fixture on The Young and the Restless, one of the longest single actor runs in daytime history.

The record backs up the legend. Braeden won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1998, his lone competitive statuette, and in 2026 he collected his eleventh Lead Actor nomination. He has been sabotaging Spectra-Charles Media, the company Sally Spectra runs with her partner Audra, in a cold blooded bid to reclaim the Newman Media assets he lost. On July 16, 2026, he flatly rejected their offer to sell the company back, telling them he loves the battle far too much to quit.

The darkest chapter is personal. In the June 18, 2026 episode, it became aired fact that Victor had weaponized the unstable Patty against his old foe Jack and Jack’s wife Diane. On July 3, 2026, Patty stabbed Jack and left him fighting for his life, and the fallout has scorched everyone around the ranch. For the latest Genoa City scoop, the rumor mill is already spinning.

Here is the connection few outlets have made. The very same Patty who shot Victor and cost him his heart in 2009 is the weapon he chose to aim at Jack in 2026. A man who nearly died by Patty’s hand has spent this year pointing her straight at his enemies. That is either poetic justice or pure madness, and Genoa City cannot look away.

Meanwhile, Billy Abbott sits squarely in Victor’s crosshairs, and the mogul’s grudge against him is a big part of why the sabotage campaign burns so hot. Jack’s son Kyle Abbott has vowed revenge on Victor over the Patty disaster, promising on July 13, 2026 to make the old man pay. The knives are out from every direction.

Not all of it is war. As his wife recovers from delicate eye surgery that has left her sight uncertain, Victor has stayed close to Nikki, and in the July 17, 2026 episode the couple agreed to a fresh start after months of cold distance. Even a tyrant, it seems, still needs his queen.
