DAYS OF OUR LIVES SPOILERS AUGUST 20: CHAD COMFORTS STEPHANIE, THEO REFUSES JOHNNY, GWEN CELEBRATES

TL;DR: Days of Our Lives Spoilers for Thursday, August 20 bring Chad comforting a shaken Stephanie, Kayla warning Joy that paralysis is on the table, Theo refusing Johnny’s apologies, and Gwen toasting a double dose of good news.

Chad DiMera Steps In While Belle Waits at Home

Salem does its best damage in hospital corridors, and Days of Our Lives spoilers for Thursday, August 20, 2026 send half the canvas straight into one. A marriage barely holding, a mother who cannot be saved, and a prognosis nobody wants to hear all collide under the same fluorescent lights.

The heart of the hour belongs to Stephanie Johnson, who spends Thursday watching her husband hold another woman’s hand and cannot say a word about it. Part of her knows Joy’s crisis is real and awful. The other part sees every crisis pulling Alex Kiriakis one step further from their marriage.

So she turns to Chad DiMera, the ex who knew her long before the Kiriakis name entered the picture. Thursday’s scenes stay warm and strictly platonic, with Chad listening, dispensing advice, and reminding her she is not crazy for feeling sidelined. Viewers who like their DOOL backstory served deep remember these two were the real thing once. He is also, right now, dating Belle Black, which keeps every kind word just a little bit loaded.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Kayla Hands Joy a Paralysis Warning

Over at the hospital, Kayla Johnson finally says the quiet part out loud. If Joy’s spinal stenosis goes the wrong way, the worst case is paralysis. That is a gut punch for a young mother who was lifting her daughter’s carrier two weeks ago and landed in a hospital bed instead.

Joy’s response is telling. She reaches for Alex, not a specialist, and Stephanie watches the whole thing curdle from the doorway. The custody fight over baby Kelsey was already ugly, and this week’s earlier fallout proved how fast this particular powder keg burns.

Are Chad and Stephanie Getting Back Together on Days of Our Lives?

Not on Thursday, and nobody official is calling it a reunion. The support session stays firmly in friend territory, and Chad’s attention remains fixed on Belle. But separations have a funny way of redrawing old maps in Salem, and Stephanie leaning on the one ex who never lied to her feels like a detail these writers planted on purpose.

Here is the wrinkle nobody else is talking about. Chad is comforting Alex’s separated wife while dating the district attorney who is elbow deep in his late father’s estate, chasing the secrets of Stefano’s chess set. If either thread snaps, Chad stands in the blast radius of both, and Belle will have questions long before Stephanie does.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Theo Slams the Door on Johnny

The episode’s coldest scene belongs to Theo Carver. His cousin Johnny DiMera keeps trying to apologize, and Theo keeps refusing to hear it. Johnny knew EJ DiMera was hiding a dying Lexie Carver in the DiMera tunnels and said nothing while her son went without her.

Lexie is out of time, and everyone knows it. Abe and Theo spend Thursday praying for more hours, not more miracles, while Johnny learns that being sorry does not buy back stolen days. The DiMera co-CEO arrangement between these cousins now hangs by a thread, and don’t be surprised if the boardroom becomes the next battlefield.

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Gwen Cashes In a Double Surprise

The bright spot, if Salem allows such things, belongs to Gwen RizczechLeo Stark walks through her door a free man and delivers the kicker: Dimitri has agreed to drop his vendetta against her entirely. Champagne for two, and for once nobody is faking the smile.

Reading between the lines, that peace came with a price tag Leo has not itemized yet, because Dimitri does not surrender leverage for free. Elsewhere, Jada squeezes EJ with pointed questions about his very busy summer, Gus lights into Javi over Leo’s return, and Chanel’s labor takes a frightening turn that has the whole DiMera clan holding its breath.

Stephanie Is One Bad Week From Redrawing An Old Map

Our take: the show did not park Stephanie in Chad’s orbit by accident. Alex keeps choosing the crisis in front of him, and every hour he spends at Joy’s bedside is an hour his wife spends remembering who used to listen.

So pick your corner. Team Loyal Friend says Chad is exactly what Stephanie needs and nothing more, while Team Lit Fuse says August ends with a kiss somebody regrets. Argue it out with us on our Facebook page, where Salem’s messiest debates live.

Two Questions Everyone Is Asking About Thursday

Is Joy really facing paralysis on Days of Our Lives? Not yet. Kayla names paralysis as the worst case outcome of Joy’s spinal stenosis if treatment fails, a warning about where the condition could go rather than a verdict already delivered. Joy has been hospitalized since severe arm pain struck her earlier this month.

Is Stephanie still married to Alex? Yes. The two eloped back in February and no divorce or annulment has streamed. She moved out of his apartment earlier this month, so the marriage is separated in practice, which is exactly why her Thursday heart to heart with Chad has message boards buzzing.
