Beyond the Gates Recap October 13, 2026: Smitty Wanted His Arrest Kept Quiet, but Fairmont Crest Has Never Once Kept Anything Quiet
This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Smitty’s quiet arrest, Nicole’s brave face over Ted’s engagement, and Heather’s date with a blade.
SMITTY’S QUIET ARREST GOES LOUD IN BEYOND THE GATES RECAP
TL;DR: This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Smitty sweating through a hush-hush arrest while Jacob Hawthorne and Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne clash over it, plus Nicole Dupree Richardson claiming a clean break from Ted Richardson’s engagement, Heather Armstrong taking Carlton Fitzgerald upstairs, and Tyrell Richardson getting texts from two girls.

Smitty Sneaks In the Back Door
Smitty learned the hard way that a discreet arrest is still an arrest. Jacob Hawthorne steered him and Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne into the station, Smitty disappeared into an interrogation room, and Naomi cornered her husband in the corridor. Skip the paperwork and the photo session, she told him, because one leaked picture could sink Martin Richardson’s election. Jacob replied that he had already smuggled Smitty through the building and had no more favors left to give.
Naomi then switched hats and joined her client inside, promising he had not shown up in any news alerts yet, which is the sort of comfort only a lawyer can offer. Smitty mused that he had always pictured being arrested for something noble, never this. They mapped out the case against him and what the arraignment would bring, and Naomi warned him honestly that he might spend a night behind bars. His chief panic had nothing to do with the cell. He fretted about skipping out on Tyrell Richardson’s exam prep, and he forbade Naomi from alerting Martin while the campaign was running.
Out in the hall, Jacob unloaded to Elon Hawthorne about how miserable the job felt. Elon said he admired his son for doing it anyway, and Jacob heard a pat on the head and said so. Smitty had been a big help on the investigation, so arresting him tasted like swallowing the evidence. Jacob went back in and offered to bargain, but Smitty swore the pills had been planted and warned that he was only the first domino. If someone was framing him, Jacob would be next. Naomi shut the session down, and Jacob walked Smitty off for the processing she had begged him to skip. The universe adores a punchline.
Across town, Martin and Kat Richardson escorted Vernon Dupree and Anita Dupree back to the estate, still glowing over his big event. Kat floated the idea of champagne. Martin confessed that his speech about transparency had made him think of Smitty, and his grandparents told him to keep the faith. He worried that everything could change, and Kat assured him the polls showed voters were in no mood for change. Martin only wished his husband had stood beside him, so he dialed. While Vernon and Anita praised how caring he was, Naomi called Vernon with the news. Martin guessed the rest, and the family bolted. Nothing ruins a champagne toast like a phone call.
Back at headquarters, Martin stormed in with the family in tow and ordered the officers to “unprocess” his husband, as if arrests came with a return policy. A cop reminded him that the law covers congressmen, too. Vernon cornered Elon and lectured him about protecting the people who matter. Elon pointed to a bigger picture and refused to budge: he and Jacob were doing their jobs, and this time he would not bend the rules for the Duprees. When officers brought Smitty out, Martin demanded to know why nobody had called him. Smitty said he needed to keep his distance, and Martin said he intended to shield him anyway.
Kat started lecturing Jacob, who had no time for it. Anita promised that if Smitty spent the night in a cell, the judge would remember the Duprees for a very long time. Husband and wife, now on opposite sides of the table, agreed that the case would not follow them home.

Nicole Insists She Is Over Ted
Nicole Dupree Richardson dabbed away her last tear in her office and told her sister Dani Dupree that she was officially past Ted Richardson. Dani agreed that Ted deserved no front-row seat to Nicole’s suffering. Down the hall, Ashley Morgan and Shanice Johnson enjoyed a giggle when Ted offered to pitch in on the wedding plans. Carlton Fitzgeraldshowed up soon enough to catch the headline, and Ted promised a full briefing later.
The ladies traded notes on dresses and venues, and Shanice already had her heart set on a Christmas wedding. Nicole walked up, overheard the plan, and strangled a grunt. Then the sisters marched over, and Dani promptly towed Andre Richardson away so the exes could have the floor. The nurses scattered. Ted told Nicole they were overdue for a talk. He said Andre believed she was upset, and Nicole insisted jealousy had nothing to do with it, since Ted had simply been the longest chapter of her adult life. Ted credited her with forcing him to face some ugly truths about himself. Nicole said they were both growing into better versions of themselves, and they hugged.
Kial Rollins crossed paths with Shanice outside, and she held out the ring for inspection. He congratulated her, she confessed she had daydreamed about this forever, and he called her the liveliest woman in the whole DMV. Both noticed the exes embracing, and soon the four of them were comparing notes on personal growth. Ted glanced at Shanice giggling beside Ashley, and Nicole noticed him noticing. After the happy couple strolled off, Nicole made sure to wish them well out loud.
Behind her office door, Nicole told Kial again that she was thrilled by the news about Ted and Shanice, then declined to dig any deeper and proposed a make-out session as a change of topic. Her mother called with news of Smitty’s arrest. Meanwhile, at home, Dani and Andre unpacked the emotional day. Dani admitted that healing and happiness did not make anyone immune to a surprise ambush. Andre pointed out that, thankfully, all his exes lived far away, since he felt as though he had spent his whole life listening to ex talk. They hoped Nicole and Kial would be as fortunate as they were and headed for the bedroom.
Heather Brings a Blade to Bed
Over at Uptown, Heather Armstrong watched the video of Smitty being hauled in, wearing the smile of a woman enjoying her favorite show. Then she spotted Carlton and glided over to remind him how much fun they used to have. Carlton replied that all of that predated learning whose sister she was, and he griped about the supper he had sat through with her brother. Heather claimed she had fled the country to escape the man, then invited Carlton upstairs for a nightcap. He agreed before she finished the sentence.
Upstairs, Heather shoved Carlton onto the bed while a knife lurked in the nightstand. She pulled out the blade and popped the buttons off his shirt, and Carlton protested that it was expensive. Heather suggested that he arrive with a scalpel next visit. Between kisses, she mentioned a snag at work that she had already taken care of, which is a very comforting thing to hear from a woman holding cutlery. Fairmont Crest’s idea of foreplay clearly comes with a safety waiver.

Tyrell’s Phone Lights Up Twice
Tyrell argued with his sister Samantha Richardson-Smith at the brownstone about his romance with Francesca Belleclaire, known as Chessie. Samantha waved a banner for Jessica, and Tyrell reminded her that Jessica had dumped him without mercy. They bickered over whether vibes could shift, and Tyrell insisted high school felt like a different universe.
Then his phone buzzed. Jessica sent a tearful string of crying emojis and begged for another chance, while Chessie texted that the two of them belonged together. Tyrell admitted he had zero clue how to proceed and wished he could ask his dads for perspective. Instead, the family delivered a bombshell far worse than any relationship dilemma: Smitty stood charged with drug-induced homicide.
