HAYLEY TRIES ON NEW IDENTITIES IN BEYOND THE GATES RECAP

TL;DR: This Beyond the Gates Recap catches Hayley Lawson shopping for a fake identity with Randy Parker, Ted Richardson and Shanice Johnson hunting for a house that Nicole Dupree Richardson cannot see from her window, Bill Hamilton unwrapping boxing gloves from Caroline Lee, and Dani Dupree swearing nothing is going on.

Hayley Tries On New Identities

Hayley Lawson cut up every credit card she owned with the gravity of a woman attending her own funeral, and the shredded plastic was the only loss she admitted to mourning. Randy Parker found her that way when he stopped by her hotel room, fresh from a rush job on her new papers. Hayley answered by snipping up her old IDs too, which is a lot of ceremony for a woman whose previous identities had mostly been bad decisions in a nice dress.

Randy would have liked a thank-you for the speedy work, and he said so, pointing out that she was being a little entitled about the whole thing. Hayley thanked him, he handed over the goods, and then he delivered the bad news hiding underneath: the rebrand came with a pay cut. Hayley, who had specifically requested a high-class background this time, looked at him like he had spit in her champagne. Randy reminded her that her power and her status had both left the building, and that her next project demanded as much distance as possible from the woman she used to be.

Meet Carmen Davidson, whose late husband drove a forklift. Hayley did not meet her warmly. Randy had a spare in his pocket, and it was Lois James, librarian, which prompted Hayley to point out that nobody on earth would believe it. She had a point, because Hayley dressed like she was attending a gothic wedding every day of the week. Randy told her to retire the Addams Family wardrobe and commit to the part. She refused to memorize anything involving Dewey and his decimals, which is the one skill a librarian actually needs.

What really stung, she admitted, was that her plan to finish off Bill Hamilton had never been completed, a regret most people keep to themselves and Hayley shares with the room. Her Caribbean mansion also demanded upkeep she could not cover, so the best she could manage was to flip it. The grand plan was a move to Los Angeles to go hunting for a fresh millionaire, and she demanded a stronger backstory and a better ID to go with it. Randy shrugged and told her to go be herself, which has never once ended well for her.

Across town, Vernon Dupree was telling his daughter that Hayley had been contained and would vanish soon enough, so the family could finally forget recent years. He was right about the vanishing, though he probably never pictured her doing it as a librarian.

Ted and Shanice Pick a Neighborhood

Ted Richardson wanted Shanice Johnson to have everything on her wedding wish list, and Shanice, a practical woman, wanted a home that did not involve waving at his ex-wife over the hedges. They snuggled over the to-do list in his office, handled the venue, and hit a wall at the question of where to live. Every neighborhood Ted floated meant a long commute, and Shanice doubted Nicole Dupree Richardson would enjoy seeing them at home on top of seeing them at the hospital. She feared hurting Nicole’s feelings and becoming the new Hayley. Ted assured her the two were not worth comparing, and he was right, since a nurse worrying about manners and a woman who plotted a murder for cash do not belong in the same category. Shanice decided that moving onto Nicole’s turf crossed a line, and they agreed to ask Nicole before choosing anything.

Nicole, meanwhile, was discussing the cloud of suspicion hanging over the family after Smitty’s arrest with Vanessa McBride, and the talk turned to the Christmas wedding. She admitted her mother suspected she still had feelings for Ted. Nicole said no. The news had rattled her briefly, but she had grieved and moved forward, and Kial Rollinsdeserved credit for that, along with the key she had handed him and the heat between them. Tethered, she called it, with nobody tugging. If Ted was handing his heart to another woman, she was glad it was Shanice. Vanessa mostly wanted her to get everything she wanted without adding any regret to the ledger.

Then Ted called to ask whether she would mind if he bought a home inside Fairmont Crest. Nicole told him to take his time, insisted it was fine, and suggested he hire Vanessa to find the place. After hanging up, she told Vanessa she was okay, Vanessa called her a bigger person, and Nicole made one request: nothing visible from her house. The real estate version of “I’m fine” is a list of sightlines.

In the hospital, Shanice floated the idea of living behind the gates to her aunt, Monica Jackson, who promised she would fit right in. Shanice was less sure. She had always wondered what a life behind the gates would feel like and never dreamed she would live it. When Ted turned up to announce that Nicole was on board, Shanice told him to make the arrangements, and a woman who spent years wondering about gated living ordered it like takeout.

Dani Swears Nothing Is Going On

Caroline Lee dropped in with cards for Bill to sign wishing him a speedy recovery, plus a box that had been delivered, and Bill made sure it was not ticking, which says everything about the month he had endured. They teased each other about who ran his world, and he swore he would be lost without her. Inside the box sat boxing gloves. Caroline told him he was still in the fight and still a hitter, and the gesture touched him.

Dani Dupree sat down with her father and asked how he was handling the family stress, and Vernon vowed the Duprees would bow to nobody. Dani worried about the fallout from the Smitty mess. Vernon then raised the subject of Nicole, who might need extra support now that Ted was getting married. Dani waved that off with no cause for concern, explaining that her sister had cried it out and drawn up a fresh plan for life without Ted. This is the same Dani who held that sister while she sobbed in her office last week, so call the review mixed.

Vernon moved on to Dani’s own marriage. She claimed it was better than ever, and that nothing was brewing between her and Bill, and her father looked like he had heard this speech before. She admitted she and Bill would keep colliding more often than she liked but said it was not deep, and that she could not treat Andre as a given after hurting him. Vernon was relieved and proud. So was Dani.

After he left, she was giggling over messages from Andre Richardson when Bill appeared. Bill’s birthday and Ted’s engagement came up, and Bill confessed he was rattling around his enormous house alone. Dani was sure he would adjust. He showed her the gloves, and she told him to enjoy the heavy bag. She said they both deserved happiness, and Bill gazed toward the elevator where the two once shared a very private moment. Her “it’s not deep” lasted about four minutes.

Is Nicole truly fine with Ted and Shanice moving behind the gates, or is Vanessa about to hear the real answer? Tell us in the comments below.

Everyone Is Fine, Allegedly

Everybody in Fairmont Crest insisted they were fine today, which in this town is the loudest alarm there is. Nicole was fine about the house, Dani was fine about her ex, and Hayley was fine about becoming a forklift widow, which she absolutely was not, making her the most honest woman in the bunch. On Beyond the Gates, the characters who announced they were fine are the ones to watch.
