TL;DR: Whoa! Derek could not be more single right now on Beyond the Gates. BTG fans did not have this development on their Bingo cards, at least for this month. He and Ashley have been clogging up precious Beyond the Gates screen time instead of more of what BTG fans want—more Shanice, Laura, and Mona. So what’s next for Mr. Derek on Beyond the Gates? Actually, it’s more like who… and that who gets around…
BTG’s Derek Baldwin Can’t Be Single, Eva Thomas is Always Looking
Former firefighter Derek isn’t really that bad. His now-ex-girlfriend/ex-fiance, Ashley Morgan, totally brought him down and made him nearly as boring as she is. It was a pleasant surprise when Derek hung out with Nurse Shanice Johnson for a bit. Derek wasn’t nearly as boring as he was with Ashley, and was even kind of cute, but maybe that was almost all Shanice. Shanice makes almost everything better.
Derek still has time with Shanice at Garland Memorial, as she is still his physical therapist and is doing a damn good job. He’s walking, and that is partly why he and Ashley broke up. Even so, Derek still has a way to go and will continue to need PT. With Eva Thomas working for her dad, Dr. Ted Richardson at the hospital, she’s bound to run into the newly single Derek. After all, Eva is always on the prowl and can sniff out an opportunity in no time flat on Beyond the Gates.

Unfortunately, Ashley Morgan Isn’t Going Where: Miss Ever-Jealous
Beyond the Gates fans have seen this movie before… Derek dated Shanice for a hot minute, and Nurse Perfect Ashley was jealous. Ashley didn’t want Derek; she wanted Andre Richardson, yet she was jealous. Good for Shanice, whatever that was with Derek didn’t last long. So, next up for Mr. Derek, man-hungry Eva.
Will Eva actually be into Derek? Maybe, maybe not. She’s still totally vibing for her sister Kat Richardson’s boyfriend, Tomas Navarro, and also has some side vibes for Izaiah Hawthorne. Why not add in some more vibes to make Tomas and/or Izaiah jealous?
Maybe Eva can start by helping Derek find a place to live on Beyond the Gates…
