This is the second major death Beyond the Gates has delivered since the show premiered in February 2025, and it marks the official exit of Ben Gavin, who was dropped from contract to recurring at the start of season two.

Jacob is going to spend the next stretch as the agent who got Derek killed. Naomi is going to lose Jacob to the case for a while. The unit is going to back Jacob because Derek was one of theirs. And the next time Jacob walks into a sting, the badge is going to feel different.

Grayson Is Holding the Plasma Bag

Grayson was at the warehouse because Grayson had been stealing plasma. Derek had been investigating because Derek had figured out what Grayson was doing. The kid spent the evening at the hospital telling anyone who would listen how awful he felt. The kid is going to spend the next year of his life knowing his plasma run brought a man to the warehouse where the man died.

Grayson is one bad week from a relapse and one good week from a redemption arc. Either path is the year of material the writers handed him on a silver tray. Either path is the kind of storyline that turns a side character into a lead.
