Beyond the Gates Breaks New Ground with LGBTQ+ Representation on CBS
It took Young & the Restless on CBS nearly 50 years to enter in a homosexual couple into the cast & life in Genoa City. Already in Maryland on Beyond the Gates there is gay marriage in common with Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) & Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) in Genoa City, WI. Vernon Dupree’s (Clifton Davis) grandson Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) is a congressman following in his grandfather’s political footsteps, & he’s married to Bradley “Smitty” Smith (Mike Manning).
It’s been revealed that they have been married long enough to have adopted two children who are now teenagers, but there might be trouble in paradise. After Martin wrapped up kissing his grandfather’s ass yet again this early in the series, he went home to his husband & asked where their kids were & where’s dinner. There’s something about Martin on Beyond the Gates…
Anita & Vernon Read Between Bill Hamilton’s Lines
Bill Hamilton’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) fiance/former best friend of his daughter Naomi Hamilton (Arielle Prepetit) is having doubts about her dream wedding at the country club. The country club & Fairmont Crest was built & is run by the Dupree family. Bill cheated on Dani Dupree (Karla Cheatham Mosley) with their daughter’s BFF who they treated as family. There is not one Dupree who has time for Bill or Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings). Ergo, any of the Duprees or any of the neighbors & friends have zero motivation to attend their wedding & much rather do anything else but watch Bill Hamilton walk his daughter’s former BFF Hayley down the aisle on their turf.
Soap opera fans are still early into Beyond the Gates & it’s already obvious that Bill’s method of winning as an attorney is making a phone call here & there with a side of manipulation. Whoever he helps on the house, owes Bill & whoever is in his house on demand as Bill requests.
Bill Hamilton even dared to stop by Vernon & Anita Dupree’s (Tamara Tunie) home to all but demand that Vernon course his family into attending his wedding. His fiancee Hayley doesn’t have parents or siblings, & now since she’s committed to Bill, she has no friends.
Vernon Dupree did his best to turn down Bill’s request but was left wondering what Bill would do if Vernon does not follow through with making sure Bill & Hayley’s wedding is well attended at the country club. Anita arrives home & immediately picks up on what Vernon is mulling over & they both agree that they have to do whatever possible to protect their grandson Martin.
So far soap opera fans know that Martin Richardson is a congressman who is married to a man & they have two teenagers. Martin also has a very close relationship with his grandfather who has admitted that Martin hasn’t always been perfect, but he is proud of him & will always be proud.
There has been almost no interaction between Martin & his parents Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix) & Ted Richardson (Maurice Johnson) so far. So what is the deal with Martin Richardson on Beyond the Gates?…
