She is not hiding it, she is not hinting at it, she is laying out the mechanics: exercise Bill Hamilton until the drug already working through his system finishes the job somewhere that will not raise an eyebrow, like a treadmill instead of a hospital bed. It is another to watch it actually happen to a man who has no idea what he drank.

The fear and confusion on his face sell it completely, and the scene lands even harder because we, the audience, are the only ones in the room who understand exactly why he is on the ground.

Smitty Blows the Lid Off an Innocent Man’s Conviction

While Hayley’s slow-motion crime plays out at home, a different injustice cracked open at Orphey Gene’s. Smitty and Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne are comparing notes on Hayley’s shifting story about Lynette Wise when an eavesdropping June jumps in with a bombshell of her own: Wesley, the man arrested for attacking Hayley, is her friend, and she does not believe for one second he laid a hand on anyone.

That is not a small thing to drop into a conversation. If Wesley did not do it, then either Hayley lied about what happened to her, or the wrong man is sitting in a cell for a crime somebody else committed. Naomi’s blunt response, that Hayley is a two-faced woman talking out of the side of her mouth, suddenly reads less like an insult and more like a diagnosis.
