Longtime co-executive producer and director of Days of Our Lives, Albert Alarr, is under scrutiny following serious allegations of misconduct. Fans of the soap opera have been taken aback by the developments, which were first reported in an exclusive article by Deadline, based on multiple sources.

The soap’s dedicated fans have been eagerly following the story, not least of all because some familiar faces from the show’s storied history have weighed in. Lisa Rinna, known for her role as Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives and the spin-off series Beyond Salem, expressed her concerns on social media following the news of the misconduct probe.

She shared on her Threads account, “I was there for one week only in 2021 to play Billie for Days of Our Lives Beyond Salem. I was taken aback by the hostile environment and feared for the young actors. I approached the producer and spoke with Sony HR. I wonder where the union stands in all this and how such an environment was allowed. I’m glad an investigation has been initiated, but it seems insufficient. No one should work under such hostility. I’m saddened by the show’s current state. I was upset two years ago and vowed never to return. I’m upset now. I loved playing Billie Reed.”

The allegations against Alarr are serious and have led to a nine-week internal investigation by Sony Pictures Television, the show’s distributor. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a female employee, who highlighted unequal impact of the recent layoffs on women and raised concerns of gender pay disparity.

During the course of the investigation, around 30 to 40 individuals, mostly women, were questioned. Some stated that Alarr has been fostering a “frat house” ambiance and communicating directing notes in vulgar, crass manners. More alarmingly, some allegations were of physical nature, including groping.

What is more disturbing is the acknowledgment from Alarr himself on some of these allegations. Add to this the revelation that Days of Our Lives, filmed in Burbank, has been devoid of an HR department since 2014. Instead, the producers handle any arising HR issues, with Alarr often being the point person.

Upon completion of the investigation, Sony TV forwarded their report to Corday Productions, the show’s production company. They have stated that they have taken “a series of actions designed to ensure a safe and respectful work environment” based on the findings, although specific details of these actions have not been disclosed.

Corday Productions, citing it as a confidential personnel matter, hasn’t shared the investigation’s results with the staff, nor addressed the situation internally. While the Days of Our Lives community, including the fans and the cast, waits with bated breath, one thing is clear – the hope for a safer, more respectful work environment for everyone involved in the beloved soap opera.
