OWEN KENT’S TWISTED PAST AND DERANGED POD HALLUCINATION EXPLAINED ON DAYS

TL;DR: Owen Kent kept Stephanie Johnson locked in a morgue body drawer in 2009, escaped a prison transport, vanished for 16 years, and is now back on Days of Our Lives babysitting Dr. Rolf’s resurrection pod and hallucinating that the woman inside it is Stephanie giving him murder advice. Yes, that really happened. And we’re a bit worried about the writers!

We Need to Talk About That Pod Scene

Let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way, because if you watched Tuesday’s Days of Our Lives and didn’t audibly say “WHO IS THAT?” you’re a stronger person than most. Owen Kent was standing in EJ’s secret lab, babysitting Dr. Rolf’s glowing resurrection pod, and he starts talking to the person inside the pod for advice on how to make Stephanie Johnson fall in love with him. The pod opens. And Stephanie sits up. WHAT!? The very same person he has tied up within shouting distance! She’s clearly not real but our boy goes on to have a full on conversation with the hallucination of the woman he’s holding captive!

The writers put “talking to yourself” on steroids! Because even though Owen acknowledged he was hallucinating, he continued to ask the figment of his imagination for advice then took note when fake Stephanie told him to kill Jeremy Horton with the same foreign sedative he’d already used to knock out the cop at the hospital.

He needed a hallucination to think of this!? The boy is super duper extra spicy crazy, y’all! Keep in mind that Owen is standing in the hospital lab that is managed by the very doctor who invented a drug that makes what is dead very much alive again. So why can’t be connect the dots without his brain calling in sick? By this point, we’re assuming Ed Gein was in his Contacts.

Before the Pod Whispering, There Was the Body Drawer

For fans wondering how Owen earned the title of Salem’s most disturbing villain, we need to dial back to 2009, when Owen was the Kiriakis family gardener. He trimmed hedges but he also fed every scrap of information he overheard straight to Stefano DiMera. Owen was a mole inside the Kiriakis estate, and nobody suspected the quiet, polite man with the pruning shears.

When the DiMera-Kiriakis war escalated, EJ DiMera activated Owen like a sleeper agent with one order: kidnap Stephanie Johnson. Owen did as he was told. And then he did something that still makes viewers’ skin crawl. He took Stephanie to his father’s funeral home and locked her inside a morgue body drawer. The very place where formaldehyde acts as skin care.

Owen was supposed to hand Stephanie over to EJ. But as the deadline approached, Owen changed his mind. He’d fallen in love with his captive. Stephanie tried to survive by playing to Owen’s weaknesses, even allowing him to kiss her to manipulate her way free. But every time she tried to escape, Owen dragged her back. It took Brady BlackPhilip Kiriakis, and Melanie Jonas finding her earring on the Kiriakis patio to finally rescue her. Which makes us think that Tuesday’s engagement ring in the trash is going to matter later.

16 Years of Silence, Then Salem’s Most Meticulous Frame Job

Owen was arrested but never made it to prison. He escaped during transport and vanished for sixteen years. He didn’t come back in a year or five or ten. He waited ages then returned with a scheme so precise it caused every person in Salem to blame the wrong man.

Owen framed Jeremy Horton with surgical precision, exploiting Jeremy’s troubled past with Stephanie Johnson, knowing that Salem’s confirmation bias would handle the rest. And now, thanks to Tuesday’s hallucination, we know Owen plans to kill the man he framed.

The Rolf Connection Changes Everything

Owen is the watchman for Dr. Rolf. But how much does he really know? Enough to refer to the Pod person as someone who had a good marriage before his brain went into hallucination mode. And if he knows certain details, did the DiMeras help Owen escape so he could be controlled?

Owen isn’t some unhinged loner who stumbled back to Salem. When Dr. Rolf said EJ would be stopping by soon, Owen didn’t flinch. He also didn’t offer to chair the welcoming committee. He left to tend to his captives. But he left knowing he has tools at his disposal: resurrection technology, a sedative that can’t be traced domestically, and a new murder plan courtesy of the imaginary woman who lives in his head.

Days of Our Lives writers may have given us the most unhinged villain scene in recent memory with that pod hallucination, but they also confirmed that Owen doesn’t just want Stephanie back. He wants everyone who stands between them dead.

Is Owen still working for EJ or has he gone full rogue? And how long before that foreign sedative claims its next victim? Sound off below!
