Gary James Fuller, the young actor who plays the adorable James West on General Hospital, took to his official Instagram account to share an update with his fans after an unexpected hospital visit, and the post is the sweetest mix of grit, gratitude, and the kind of humor only a soap kid could pull off.
In the photo accompanying his caption, Gary is in a hospital gown, hooked up to an IV, sporting a bruise under his eye, and grinning ear to ear like the absolute champion he is. The kid is unshakable.
“Even though it hurt and some parts were pretty scary, I tried to keep smiling and stay positive,” he wrote. “There wasn’t much I could do except be brave, crack a few jokes, and focus on getting better.”

The GH Family Showed Up Big
The best part of Gary’s update was the gratitude he poured out for the community that wrapped around him while he was recovering. “One of the coolest parts of all of this was seeing how many people were rooting for me,” he shared. “My General Hospital family checked in with FaceTime calls, messages, and encouragement.”
He went on to thank his castmates, casting, wardrobe, his studio teachers, agents, manager, and the many people behind the scenes who reached out. “It meant a lot to know I had such a big team cheering me on while I recovered.”
The comments under his post were a love-fest in their own right. Tanisha Harper, who plays Jordan Ashford on GH, wrote, “Oh my goodness get well soon sweet Gary!” Castmate Sawandi Wilson chimed in too, sending, “Nooo. Get well soon! Take it easy.” The outpouring from the daytime world was instant, warm, and exactly what a kid recovering at the hospital needed to see lighting up his phone.
Home, Healing, and Already Looking Ahead
The very best news? Gary is already home and back to feeling like himself. “I’m home now, healing up, and already looking forward to getting back to baseball, racing, filming, and all the things I love to do,” he wrote. (Yes, this twelve-year-old is also a drag racer and a baseball player on top of being a working actor. We were not joking about him being a powerhouse.)
And he closed with the line that absolutely cracked us up. “But just so everyone knows,” Gary wrote, “from now on, I’m going to let James handle the ER storylines.”
