The Girl Who Knows Too Much

There is a version of Josslyn Jacks that Carly Spencer raised. Fierce, loyal, occasionally reckless, and constitutionally incapable of walking away from a fight she believes is righteous. That version of Josslyn is the one who joined the WSB to destroy Sonny Corinthos and everyone like him. That version hunted down Cyrus Renault, killed him, and called it the price of justice.

Then there is the version of Josslyn that walked into Jason Morgan’s office on a recent episode of General Hospital, ordered Britt Westbourne out of the room, and told the most dangerous man in Port Charles to eliminate Valentin Cassadine. That version is something else entirely. That version has been trained by the WSB, has already taken a life, and is operating with the kind of cold clarity that should terrify everyone who loves her including the man she was talking to.

She walked it back. She told Jason Morgan he did not have to go that far. She said all she needed was for him to convince Carly to cut Valentin loose. But the words were already in the room. And Jason Morgan has been doing this long enough to know that when someone tells you they do not want a person eliminated, the reason they said it in the first place does not disappear.

What Jason Heard

Here is what Jason actually absorbed from that conversation. Josslyn told him that Carly Spencer is hiding Valentin Cassadine in her attic and has been working with him to neutralize Jack Brennan. She told him that Valentin and Carly are now partners and that Carly refuses to cut him loose. She told him that she gave her mother 24 hours to get rid of Valentin or she would do it herself. And then she told Jason that eliminating Valentin was too far and asked him to handle it another way.

Jason is a man who has spent his entire adult life making quiet, irreversible decisions on behalf of people he loves. He does not panic. He does not escalate unnecessarily. But he also does not ignore a threat to Carly Spencer. He never has. The question General Hospital is sitting on right now is not whether Jason will act. The question is what acting looks like when the woman he is protecting has already made her choice and that choice is Valentin.

The Loaded Dynamic Nobody Is Talking About

Josslyn went to Jason specifically. Not Sonny, not her father, not anyone else in the considerable Port Charles arsenal of dangerous men. She went to Jason because she trusts him and because she knew he would understand the weight of what she was asking without flinching.

What she may not have fully calculated is that Jason understanding the weight of something and Jason agreeing to leave it alone are two entirely different things. She joined the WSB to take down people like Sonny. Jason has spent thirty years being exactly the kind of person she is trying to destroy. They are on the same side of this particular problem and on opposite sides of every philosophical question underneath it.

Josslyn asked him not to eliminate Valentin. Jason said he might have to. She told him that was too far. He told her that Carly had decided he could not help her and that Valentin was her answer now. That is not a man who has been talked out of anything. That is a man who has been given information and is now deciding what to do with it on his own timeline. In Port Charles, that timeline has a way of running out faster than anyone expects.
