The Letter He Left Behind
Kelly Monaco doesn’t post about Billy Miller often. When she does, it tends to mean something.
She marked today, the day that would have been his 47th birthday, by finally sharing a letter he wrote her in 2019. It had sat unposted for years, tucked away somewhere she alone had access to. He wrote it the year he left General Hospital, and he’d hoped she would share it with fans at the time. Kelly Monaco held onto it instead, and only let it go today.

What He Wrote
In the letter, Miller wasn’t dwelling on what he was leaving behind. He wrote about goodbye as a kind of gratitude rather than a loss, a way of appreciating what he and the people watching had built together instead of grieving that it had ended. He thanked fans for letting him into their lives across two different soaps and two very different characters, years apart from each other.
Kelly Monaco’s own words alongside the letter were brief. She described her former scene partner as someone whose presence still stays with her, all these years later.
Their Years On Screen
Miller played Jason Morgan, and later his twin Drew Cain, opposite Kelly Monaco’s Sam McCall from 2014 to 2019. Before that role, he spent six years on Young and the Restless as Billy Abbott, earning three Daytime Emmy wins along the way and a following that never really moved on from him.
He died in September 2023, at the age of 43. His mother, Patricia, said afterward that he had lived with bipolar depression for years and had fought it as hard as he could before the illness ultimately took his life.
Monaco has said very little publicly about his death in the time since. That silence makes today’s letter one of the rare moments she’s addressed it at all, even sideways.
