Kristina explained that her time in the hospital — after the heartbreaking loss two years ago of the baby girl she carried as a surrogate, conceived with her own egg, for Molly and TJ Ashford — is what lit a fire in her. She studied for the MCAT every chance she got, applied to UCLA, and got in.

“I’m afraid of starting school and not finishing it,” Kristina admitted on May 27. But Molly was not about to let her sister talk herself out of it, insisting that the memory of the baby they lost would carry Kristina all the way to the finish line.
