TL;DR: Maxie Jones woke up from a six month coma, chose Spinelli, and found out her best friend was dating her husband from Dante instead of from Lulu on General Hospital. We are not here to be balanced about this. We are here to say Maxie Jones is right, Lulu Spencer is wrong, and girl code does not have a footnote that says “except when he is really cute.”

Let Us Set the Record Straight

Maxie Jones was in a coma for six months. Not on vacation. Not ignoring her phone. In a coma. The kind where people sit beside your bed and hope you come back. The kind where your husband grieves you while you are still technically alive. The kind that nobody signs up for and nobody deserves.

She came back. She chose Spinelli. She tried to do the right thing by the man she had built a life with and the man she had loved before that. And then she found out that while she was unconscious, her best friend and her husband had developed feelings for each other and had not told her.

She found out from Dante.

Not from Lulu Spencer. Not from Nathan West. From Dante. Who did not even know that Dante did not already know.

We are going to need everyone in Port Charles to sit down for a moment.

The Case Against Lulu Spencer, Presented Respectfully But Firmly

Lulu Spencer is not a villain. She is not a bad person. She is a woman who fell for someone at the worst possible moment and made a series of choices that she is now having to live with. We understand all of that. We are still siding with Maxie.

Here is why.

Maxie Jones told Lulu she was her person. Her person. The one she calls when everything falls apart. The one who knows where all the bodies are buried and loves her anyway. That is not a casual friendship. That is the kind of bond that comes with responsibilities, and one of those responsibilities is that you do not fall in love with her husband while she is in a coma and then let her find out from the police commissioner.

Lulu’s defense is that she did not want to overwhelm Maxie or influence the choice she had to make. That is a lovely sentiment and it is completely beside the point. The choice had already been made by the time Maxie woke up. The feelings were already there. The relationship was already happening. Lulu was not protecting Maxie by staying quiet. She was protecting herself from a conversation she did not want to have.

And Felicia said it best. Husband swapping between besties is different from hooking up with strangers. That is not an opinion. That is a fact. Port Charles has always known this and Lulu Spencer knows it too.

The Case FOR Maxie Jones, Because She Deserves One

Let us talk about what Maxie actually said when she found out.

She did not scream. She did not throw things. She did not call Nathan every name in the book or show up at Lulu’s house with a vendetta. She sat with her feelings and she used her words. She said she felt betrayed. She said she could not understand how Nathan could move on that fast if he had loved her the way she loved him. She said she was glad everything was out in the open.

And then she said the thing that broke our hearts completely. She said she did not want Nathan to move on. Just not with Lulu. Because Lulu was the person she would have called to talk about Nathan’s new girlfriend. And now she cannot do that. Because Lulu IS the new girlfriend.

That is not jealousy. That is grief. Maxie Jones lost her husband, then she lost her best friend, and she did it all while still technically being the one who made the first move by choosing Spinelli. She has no one to be angry at and every reason in the world to be angry and she is handling it with more grace than most people would manage.

Maxie Jones is not wrong for being hurt. Maxie Jones is not wrong for calling it out. And Maxie Jones is absolutely not wrong for saying girl code does not bend just because the situation is complicated.

The Part Where We Say What Everyone Is Thinking

Tracy Quartermaine told Lulu to go after what she wants and make no apologies. Tracy Quartermaine, the woman who has bulldozed through more relationships than most people have had hot dinners, told Lulu Spencer that Luke would have wanted her to be happy however it looked and whatever it took.

With respect to Tracy, and we have enormous respect for Tracy, this is bad advice for this specific situation.

There is a difference between going after what you want and going after what belongs to your best friend. Nathan is not a prize to be claimed. He is a person with his own feelings and his own choices. But the way this unfolded, with Maxie finding out from the wrong person at the wrong time after waking up from a coma, is not something that an apology and a girls’ lunch is going to fix overnight.

Lulu Spencer told Maxie she was still her person. Maxie looked at her and said “you think?” and that single syllable contained six months of grief and betrayal and complicated love that is going to take a very long time to untangle.

Girl code must always reign supreme. Port Charles needs to write that down.
