Chris McKenna is done playing Jack Brennan on General Hospital, and he’s sharing how he really feels about the way his run ended.

Jack Brennan’s Time On General Hospital Has Ended

Getting killed off is starting to feel routine for Chris McKenna. Jack Brennan didn’t survive General Hospital’s September 1 episode, discovered lifeless in the Metro Court pool, and McKenna isn’t pretending it doesn’t sting a little. He told TV Insider he’d already had months to process the news privately, since his actual last day on set happened back in June, long before any of it aired. McKenna stepped into the role in February 2025 after Charles Mesure moved on, and he has a dry sense of humor about the timing: it marks his “third soap that has either written me off or killed me off.”

A Career That Started Long Before Port Charles

Soap fans have seen McKenna disappear from a canvas before. His daytime resume dates back to the early ’90s, when he spent several years on One Life to Live as Joey Buchanan, and he later resurfaced in the mid-2010s over on The Young and the Restless playing Mark Harding. Jack Brennan became the latest name on that list, which is exactly why McKenna’s joke about his soap track record lands the way it does. He says he’s walking away from Port Charles with real gratitude for the storylines Jack got to tell.

McKenna Has A Theory On Who Did It

Despite being written off, McKenna isn’t shy about weighing in on where the mystery should go next. He’s already picked his favorite suspect, too: Willow Tait. McKenna thinks the timeline finally lines up for her to snap, and he’d love nothing more than to watch her take the fall for it on-screen. The show’s producers have already sent him off with kind words, praising his work on the character.
