Genie Francis is off General Hospital for a few weeks, and the show already has a plan for her return this fall.

Genie Francis Is Taking Some Time Off

Genie Francis wrapped up her run as Mayor Laura Collins for now on Monday, August 31, according to Michael Fairman. This isn’t a permanent departure. Francis takes this same break every year, and the show wrote Laura’s absence into the plot by sending her out of town to check on family overseas.

Right before she left, Laura made one last stop at the Metro Court to lean on Sonny Corinthos and Drew Cain, pushing the two men to put their feud on hold while she’s gone. Neither one seemed particularly eager to agree.

Genie Francis Has Played Laura For Almost Fifty Years

Francis has been part of the General Hospital cast since 1977, best known for the Luke and Laura pairing that made the show a household name. Her one Daytime Emmy win came in 2007, and she’s picked up three more nominations across her run. Fans can expect her back on-screen sometime this fall once production catches back up to real time.

General Hospital Will Have Laura Back Soon Enough

Genie Francis taking a summer break is nothing new for General Hospital, and the show has made sure there’s a real storyline waiting for her when she gets back. That unresolved standoff between Sonny and Drew alone is reason enough to keep an eye out for Laura’s return.
