A Retired Mobster With A Suspiciously Full Calendar

Sonny Corinthos keeps telling Port Charles he’s out, and his to-do list keeps calling him a liar. Sitting down with his brother, Ric Lansing, to plot a winning strategy for Piers 55 and 56 sounds like perfectly respectable business. He even swore he’d never go back to his old methods against Drew Cain, because he promised Laura Collins he wouldn’t.

His real priorities showed up the minute one of his associates slipped in for a private word. Afterward, the self-described coffee importer calmly admitted he’d sent a message to a prisoner at Pentonville. His arrangement? He keeps an eye on the families of several inmates, and in exchange, they keep an eye on Jenz Sidwell. Ric looked worried, and he should be. “Keeping an eye on families” is not a phrase that appears in any legitimate business plan.

Somebody Should Probably Skip Lunch

Now for the part that should make everyone at Pentonville nervous. That same associate turned up at Pentonville, chatted with an inmate, and the second their visit wrapped, that inmate warned Curtis Ashford to find a reason not to be in his cell after lunch. Curtis’s cellmate is Sidwell.

Back in the summer, the former don looked Justine Turner in the eye and promised that if something happened to Sidwell, he’d have nothing to do with it. That promise is aging like milk in the sun. A man who is truly out of the life doesn’t have a delivery system that runs straight into a prison cell block.

The Auction Is A War Either Way

The piers were supposed to be Sonny Corinthos’ ticket to a clean future, bought fair and square with a paddle instead of a pistol. The trouble is who’s bidding against him. Laura already begged both men to keep the peace, and neither budged an inch. She even warned that Drew would pull out all the stops.

If Sonny wins, Drew takes it personally and comes swinging. If Drew wins, Sonny’s shiny legitimate empire sits in the hands of the man who hates him most. There’s no version of this auction that ends with a handshake, and Ric already reminded his brother that Drew deserves his full attention, which is the most mob-coded advice a lawyer has ever given.

Enemies Are Lining Up

Then there’s the home front. Ava Jerome stormed over after he pulled Avery Corinthos out of school without telling her, and she vowed it was the last time he’d go behind her back. Justine is running for district attorney and swears her opponents won’t find any skeletons, right after Jordan Ashford watched her kiss Sonny Corinthos in a parking lot. That’s a skeleton wearing a very nice suit.
