THE MOB KING HAS HUNG UP HIS CROWN! GH’S Sonny Corinthos Traded His Throne for a Clean Slate
Sonny Corinthos quit the mob on General Hospital, and now the real question is who takes his empire, and what he becomes without it.

THE CROWN SONNY CORINTHOS JUST DROPPED WON’T STAY ON THE GROUND FOR LONG
Sonny Corinthos told Dante Falconeri he’s quitting the mob for good, but Port Charles has never let an empty throne stay empty for long.
Sonny Corinthos Steps Down
Sonny Corinthos told Dante Falconeri that Jason Morgan leaving the business for Danny’s sake wasn’t the only change coming. Sonny is getting out too, and he plans to pour his energy into the legitimate ventures that opened up once Sidwell went down, including reclaiming the piers he lost.
Dante was floored. He never thought he’d live to see his father go legit, and for once, Sonny didn’t have to hold anything back to protect his son’s badge while explaining himself. There was something almost tender about a father finally being able to speak freely to his son without calculating the fallout first. They hugged it out, and for a minute, Port Charles felt almost peaceful.
Think Sonny’s actually done for good, or is this a temporary retirement? Send your theory to [email protected] and it could show up in a future issue!
A King Without a Throne
Sonny Corinthos has been synonymous with power in this town for decades, and it is genuinely hard to picture him behind a desk instead of behind a closed door making people disappear. Fading quietly into the background isn’t really in his DNA, no matter how good his intentions are right now.
There’s also the question of what “legitimate” even looks like for a man who has spent his entire adult life running an empire built on fear. He could go the Ric Lansing route and stay adjacent to the law, or he could genuinely try the family man arc and let Carly, Michael, and Donna be the whole plot for once. Either way, staying retired has never once been Sonny’s strong suit, and Port Charles has burned him on that promise before.
Who’s Ready to Wear the Crown?
An empire this size does not sit empty for long, and Port Charles has never been short on people who want a piece of it. Dante has spent years in law enforcement precisely because he didn’t want this life, which makes him an unlikely heir, but grief and opportunity have turned better men than him toward the family business.
Then there’s everyone circling from the outside. Valentin recently got his assets unfrozen and has a proven taste for danger. Jenz Sidwell‘s fall leaves pieces on the board that nobody’s claimed yet. Even Ava Jerome, who has never once in her life passed up a power grab, has to be doing the math on what Sonny Corinthos walking away actually means for her own ambitions.
The Crown Doesn’t Stay Empty Long
History says whoever grabs Sonny’s old territory first sets the terms for everyone else, and Port Charles has never gone more than a handful of episodes without somebody making a move on an open throne. Whoever steps up will inherit the piers, the power, and every enemy Sonny Corinthos made along the way, and that guest list is not short.
Who do you think ends up running Port Charles’s underworld now that Sonny’s out? Head to the comments and stake your claim!

If writers and TPTB want Sonny/Jason out of the mob that’s the way it will be, no ifs, and buts. Every viewer just need to wait and see how each character will be written and how their lives will change. I know the old saying of it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it is in some viewers mind who are against change is out there, but in my opinion change is needed if GH is to go forth and stay televised for the future. I am patiently waiting to see how writers with pen the changes to canvas. All the naysayers just may be happy also.
