STEVE BURTON EXPLAINS THAT JASON MORGAN TRANSFORMATION

Steve Burton is finally addressing all those fan reactions to Jason Morgan’s rough new look, and the reason behind it is sweeter than you’d think.

The Look Fans Couldn’t Stop Talking About

Steve Burton made his return to General Hospital this year as Jason Morgan, and the character came home from a rough stretch behind bars looking every bit like he had lived through it. The hair was longer and messier than fans were used to seeing. The frame was leaner. There was a battered, worn down quality to the whole look, and viewers noticed immediately.

The reaction online was loud, and it was not always gentle. Fans debated the new hairline, the weight loss, and the overall harder edge Jason Morgan was carrying after his release. Some worried something was actually wrong. Others simply were not fans of the change.

Steve Burton addressed the entire conversation head on during a recent episode of his podcast with Bradford Anderson, who plays Damian Spinelli. The two spent time talking through the comments and the criticism together, and Burton did not shy away from any of it. He and Anderson also swapped stories about growing up on set together, a friendship that has clearly carried through Jason’s dramatic comeback.

Steve Burton Says It Was All by Design

According to Steve Burton, none of it happened by accident. He explained that the moment he found out Jason would be coming home from prison, he made a conscious decision to start slimming down for the role. The goal was simple: he wanted the physical toll of the storyline to actually read on screen, rather than have Jason bounce back looking untouched by everything he had survived.

“It was all intentional because I think I look pretty good right now,” Steve Burton said on the podcast, laughing off any suggestion that the transformation was unplanned or accidental.

Bradford Anderson read several of the harsher fan comments aloud during the episode, and Burton took every single one in stride. He gave real credit to the hair and makeup team for pulling off a transformation convincing enough to have fans genuinely worried. It turns out that concern was exactly the reaction they were going for.

So if you were one of the fans who spent the last few weeks wondering whether something was seriously wrong with Jason Morgan, you can relax. The roughest, most battered version of the character yet was the entire point, planned out well before a single scene was ever filmed.

If Jason came home looking the same as he did before he left, it would really be unrealistic considering how the story was told of how bad WSB out of the country sites were and how they handled their prisoners. I think the look suited the situation. Of course it should take Jason a few weeks to get back to himself as far as his looks are concerned, but I think make up did a great job. As to Jason having a changed personality, I really have no problem with this and don’t feel writers will pen the character uninteresting. I think it is time both Sonny/Jason have a change in story lines as their lives as presented as the same for over 20 years, everyone needs a change even if a soap character. Just my thoughts.
