CLAUDIO GAMA SHARES A DEVASTATING TRIBUTE AS TONY GEARY IS LAID TO REST IN AMSTERDAM

TL;DR: Tony Geary’s husband Claudio Gama shared a heartbreaking Instagram post announcing that they said their final goodbyes to the General Hospital legend in Amsterdam. Gama thanked Tony’s fans, friends, and colleagues for their love and support.

Tony Geary Is Now Resting “Where the Stars Shine Bright”

The soap opera world is still reeling from the loss of Tony Geary, and now his husband of over 30 years, Claudio Gama, has shared the devastating news that the General Hospital icon has been laid to rest.

In a touching Instagram post, Claudio wrote, “Greetings to all from Amsterdam. Today we said our last goodbyes to Tony. He is now resting up where the stars shine bright. He will always be missed.”

Tony passed away on December 14, 2025, at age 78 from complications following surgery. The eight-time Daytime Emmy winner portrayed Luke Spencer on General Hospital for decades, and his impact on daytime television simply cannot be overstated. His legendary love story with Genie Francis’s Laura Collins drew 30 million viewers to their 1981 wedding and changed soap operas forever. Elizabeth Taylor even guest-starred at the wedding because she was a FAN.

That’s the kind of cultural impact Tony had. He didn’t just play a character. He became a phenomenon.

Claudio Gama Thanks Tony’s Fans for Decades of Love and Support

In his tribute, Claudio made sure to express gratitude to everyone who supported Tony throughout his legendary career. “Me, Max, and the family would like to thank all of Tony’s friends and colleagues for the wonderful support and respect you have shown Tony,” he wrote.

Max, of course, is the couple’s beloved cat who shared their quiet life together in Amsterdam after Tony’s 2015 retirement from General Hospital.

But it was Claudio’s message to Tony’s fans that truly hit home. “To all of Tony’s fans, thank you so much for the wonderful words of support and condolences. He always told me everything he did as an actor, as an artist, was for his fans. Without your love and support, he would have never reached the heights he did in his career.”

For those who watched Tony bring Luke Spencer to life for decades, those words mean EVERYTHING. He knew. He appreciated every single viewer who tuned in. Every fan letter, every kind word, every moment of support mattered to him.

The Things Tony Loved Most

Claudio also shared some personal details about the man behind Luke Spencer, revealing Tony’s passions beyond acting. “Acting was his passion, as was dancing, singing, drinking cola, Payday candy bars, and cats,” Claudio wrote. “He loved his country and his second home of Amsterdam.”

There’s something so beautifully human about those details. The legendary actor who won more Daytime Emmys than any other male performer also loved Payday candy bars and cats. He found happiness in the simple things, living quietly in Amsterdam with Claudio and little Max.

A Legacy That Will Never Be Forgotten

Tony’s portrayal of Luke Spencer helped define what a soap opera leading man could be. He was complicated, messy, romantic, and REAL in ways that daytime television hadn’t seen before. His partnership with Genie Francis created television magic that inspired generations of soap couples to come.

The tributes from his General Hospital family have been pouring in since his passing, and they’re only going to continue. Because when you touch that many lives, when you bring that much joy to that many people, you don’t just disappear. You live on in every memory, every rerun, every fan who fell in love with Luke and Laura.

Claudio ended his post with a simple but powerful send-off: “Rest in Peace, our Tony. Stay warm, safe, and healthy.”

Rest easy, legend. Port Charles will never forget you.
