The collateral damage is the entire point. Brook Lynn Quartermaine, Michael’s cousin and the woman who just took on the impossible job of fostering baby Phoebe with Chase, is the marriage that is going to detonate when those photos finally drop. That is something colder, something the old Michael would never have allowed himself to become.

Reading between the lines, Michael’s calculus is brutal but simple. If Willow Cain is caught in a compromising position with her own ex-husband, the Drew custody fight gets blown wide open, the congressional appointment looks indefensible, and the carefully constructed alliance Willow has built with Jenz Sidwell starts to crumble.
