Daphne Rose pulled another negative pregnancy test out of her bag in the middle of the Forrester office this week and Carter Walton gave her the same speech he has been giving her since February. It takes time. Some couples have to wait. Their family is coming. He could not be more sincere if he tried, and we are still here to tell you that on The Bold and the Beautiful this runner has gone on far too long to be what the show is pretending it is.

This is not a fertility plot. Fertility plots wrap up in three weeks with a doctor’s visit and a tearful surrogacy decision. This is something else. This is a paternity bombshell loading up in slow motion and Carter is the only person in LA who is not going to see it coming. We have three theories about what is detonating.

Theory One: The Baby Daphne Rose Wants Is Going to Be Born to the Wrong Woman

Carter has had a parade of women in his life and not a single accidental pregnancy, which is statistically suspicious for a daytime leading man pushing forty. The writers know this. The writers are going to fix this. And they are not going to fix it by giving him a baby with his lovely new wife.

Hope Logan is the most recent ex. She is back with Liam Spencer, but she had a real thing with Carter not that long ago, and the timing of one specific encounter could absolutely be retconned to fall right inside the window. Zoe Buckingham could come back from London. Paris Buckingham could come back from anywhere. An old flame from Carter’s mysterious pre LA life could walk through the Forrester doors and announce she has been carrying his child for months.

The baby Daphne wants more than anything in the world is going to be born. Just not to her.

Theory Two: Daphne Is Pregnant and Someone Is Sabotaging the Tests

Daphne actually is pregnant. Has been pregnant. Every time she takes a test, the result reads negative because the tests themselves have been tampered with. Switched in her bag. Replaced in her medicine cabinet. Adjusted in some way that is going to make perfect soapy sense the moment we find out who is doing it.

The list of people who would benefit from Daphne Rose not having Carter’s baby is shorter than you would think but it is not empty. Ivy Forrester is already running a sabotage operation in that building and she has the access, the patience, and the willingness to expand it. An old flame of Carter’s who slipped back into town quietly. A jealous coworker. Someone who knows a Walton baby closes that door forever.

If this theory lands, the moment Daphne finds out is the moment she figures out exactly who in her life is willing to lie to her face.

Theory Three: They Are Not the Soulmate Pairing the Show Is Selling

The reason Daphne cannot conceive with Carter may not be medical at all. The show may be quietly telling us these two are not the love story we have been told to root for. Carter has spent a decade chasing women who were not right for him because something inside him has been broken since long before he ever got to LA. Lawrence Saint-Victor said it himself recently. He wants the backstory we have never gotten.

The most diabolical version is that the writers are about to give it to him. Carter’s family. Carter’s history. His reason for chasing love so hard. And inside that reveal is the answer to why this marriage cannot produce a baby. Maybe Carter has the medical issue. Maybe Daphne has a secret she carried back from Paris. Maybe the universe is telling them something neither of them wants to hear.

The Bombshell Is Coming and Nobody in That Office Sees It

Daphne Rose is going to keep pulling pregnancy tests out of her bag. Carter is going to keep telling her it takes time. Forrester Creations is going to keep treating this like a sweet little fertility runner. And one day soon a door is going to open and the woman walking through it is either going to be carrying Carter’s baby, holding the answer to why Daphne cannot have one, or both.

We are not betting on a happy ending. We are betting on the soapiest possible explanation for one of the longest negative pregnancy test runners in recent memory. When has that bet been wrong?
