A Husband Who Can Tell His Wife Isn’t Sold

Finn didn’t buy it for a second, and he shouldn’t. When Steffy Forrester announced she wants to donate her eggs and carry a baby for Carter Walton and Daphne Rose, her husband didn’t hear generosity. He heard a woman talking herself into something. The doctor reminded her there are plenty of women who do this for a living, asked why on earth she feels she has to, and even floated the idea that someone is pressuring her. He has no idea how right he is.

Steffy’s body language did the rest of the talking. She held her head in her hands while he praised her selflessness and shook her head when he called her loyal. The second he walked out the door, she was clutching her stomach with Carter’s pitch ringing in her ears. A woman thrilled to hand her best friend a miracle doesn’t look like she’s bracing for a car crash.

Man To Man, Doctor To Lawyer

Picture it: before he heads off to his conference, the good doctor takes a detour to Forrester Creations with one thing on his mind. Ridge Forrester already told him to stop talking and fix whatever is wrong at home, and this is what fixing it looks like to Finn. Carter backs off. No more pitches, no more speeches about fate, no more cornering his wife into a yes. Steffy gets room to breathe and think through what this would mean for her health, her body, and her heart, on her own clock.

From where he’s standing, it’s the most reasonable request in the world. He’s a physician. He knows a surrogate signs up for screenings, bloodwork, hormones, and nine months of her body belonging to somebody else’s dream. Nobody should agree to that in a week.

Carter’s Clock Ran Out Before The Talk Started

That’s exactly why Carter can’t say yes. Every word of that request is a threat to him. Carter already told Steffy the clock is ticking and that she’d be showing before they ever convinced their spouses. He already offered to build a paper trail, told Daphne that Steffy’s eggs are frozen and ready, and poured booze from a flask into his office coffee cup to survive a chat about baby clothes. Carter can’t treat a cooling-off period as a pause. To him, it’s a detonator.

Here’s the delicious irony. The slow, careful, medically supervised version Finn wants requires a clinic, and clinics run tests. One routine workup and the “surrogate” turns out to be pregnant before anyone has been implanted with anything. So Carter has to push harder, faster, and louder, and every shove looks exactly like the pressure her husband was worried about in the first place.

Add Taylor Hayes, who already senses her daughter is wrestling with something that keeps taking up more space, and a best friend shopping for onesies, and this turns into the kind of baby battlefield this soap has always done best.
